Guide to Establishing Efficient Trails and Skyways in Frostpunk 2

Guide to Establishing Efficient Trails and Skyways in Frostpunk 2

New London is just a small section of the Frostlands in Frostpunk 2. If you’re courageous enough to endure the cold, you can explore it using Trails and Skyways.

In the early stages of the game, you will unlock a portion of the Frostlands map. Your main goal is to scavenge for fuel before your limited Coal supply depletes. You have a limited number of weeks to establish a Trail connection to transport your findings back to your Outpost.

This marks the beginning of your adventure in creating effective Trails and Skyways for the transfer of resources and citizens between Outposts and their numerous colonies, and vice versa. In this comprehensive guide, we’ll cover the functionality of each system and how to establish a robust network.

Understanding Trails in Frostpunk 2

Trails serve as links connecting one Outpost to another. Once you connect two Outposts, you’ll be able to transfer resources and citizens between them.

Steps to Connect the Trails

Locate the circle in the lower right corner of the map.

If you’re in Chapter 1 and need to connect Trails to send Colonists to your newly discovered settlement, follow these steps:

  1. Click the circle in the map’s right corner (accessible by pressing V).
  2. With the Trail tool activated, connect the path from the Old Dreadnaught to New London.
  3. You can connect directly or place markers gradually on the blank spots until you reach your destination.
  4. Once you arrive at the marker near New London, click on it and select the checkmark to begin construction.

Remember, while Trails are economical, they still require resources: 10 Frostland Teams, 25 Heatstamps per route segment, and 5 Prefabs per route segment. Each section between markers constitutes a route segment in your Trail.

Why Can’t I Place a Trail on Red Dots?

You cannot set up Trails in uncharted areas. First, launch an expedition.

Trails can only be constructed in explored territories. If you haven’t surveyed a certain area on the map, you can’t set up a Trail yet.

Initially, you must launch an Expedition. To do this, click on the name of an unexplored area, like the Highlands, and select Launch Expedition. Expeditions also require Frostland Teams and can be classified as either Dangerous or Deadly, meaning some of your Scouts may face injuries during their journey – a risk you can mitigate with the Research Institute.

To create a Skyway, locate the circle adjacent to the Trails Construction circle.

After a few hours, you’ll be ready to upgrade to Skyways, leaving Trails behind.

Skyways offer an enhanced capacity, allowing you to transport up to 600 resources, significantly surpassing the 250 resource limit of Trails.

Unlocking Skyways

Locate the Skyways upgrade in the Frostland tab of the Ideas Tree.

To unlock Skyways, you must construct the Research Institute. Open the Ideas Tree by pressing R and navigate to the Frostland tab. Here, you will find the Skyways Idea under your Outpost’s core beliefs, available for unlocking at the cost of 50 Heatstamps.

That’s all you need to know about Trails and Skyways in Frostpunk 2. While you’re here, you might also want to discover the best methods for acquiring Cores in the game.
