Guide to Evolving Yamask and Galarian Yamask in Pokemon Go: Unlocking Cofagrigus and Runerigus

In Pokémon Go, the evolutions of Yamask and its Galarian variant differ significantly. This guide provides everything you need to know to successfully add both Cofagrigus and Runerigus to your Pokédex.

Regional variants can cause a bit of confusion within Pokémon Go. Although they share the same Pokédex entry, these variants often showcase distinct designs, typing, and evolution pathways, making it challenging to keep track of each one.

Take Yamask, for instance. The standard version evolves into Cofagrigus, while the Galarian form evolves into Runerigus, each with unique evolution requirements that must be met.

Whether you aim to evolve the Ghost-type Yamask or the dual Ground/Ghost type known as Galarian Yamask in Pokémon Go, you can find all the essential information you require below.

Evolving Yamask into Cofagrigus

To evolve a regular Gen 5 Yamask into Cofagrigus, you need to collect 50 Candy. There are no additional items or Buddy tasks necessary for this evolution within Niantic’s game.

If you find it challenging to gather enough Candy, consider utilizing Pinap Berries when capturing Yamask to maximize your Candy collection. Additionally, you can set Yamask as your Buddy to earn extra Candy while you travel around.

Participating in special events, especially those around Halloween, can also be advantageous, as Yamask frequently appears in these events. The upcoming Yamask and Galarian Yamask Research Day is scheduled for October 19, 2024.

Evolving Galarian Yamask into Runerigus

For Galarian Yamask, introduced in Gen 8, it can evolve into Runerigus by collecting 50 Candy. However, unlike its standard counterpart, you must first set Galarian Yamask as your Buddy and win 10 Raids before the evolution option becomes available.

To easily complete the Buddy task, consider engaging in 1-Star Raids, which are generally winnable on your own if you have a robust team of Pokémon. You can check the current lineup of Raid Bosses for the most recent information.
