Satisfactory has officially transitioned from early access to version 1.0, introducing a whole new wave of Pioneers eager to construct their automated dream factories. With the 1.0 release, online and multiplayer features have been redesigned, and setting up your own dedicated server has never been simpler.
Satisfactory 1.0 Dedicated Server Setup Guide (Windows)
This guide will walk you through the process of setting up a dedicated server using Steam on Windows. However, the steps are nearly identical for those who own Satisfactory via the Epic Games Store. Follow the steps outlined below to launch your dedicated server:
- Install Satisfactory Dedicated Server Client
- Launch the Dedicated Server Client
- Configure Networking and Ports
- Initial Server Setup and Configuration
1) Installing the Satisfactory Dedicated Server Client
Before hosting your server, you must install the Satisfactory Dedicated Server client. Use the following steps to download it:
- On Steam:
- Open your Steam Library, search for ‘Satisfactory’. Under the Tools category, locate Satisfactory Dedicated Server and install it.
- On Epic Games:
- Visit the Epic Store, search for ‘Satisfactory’. On the Satisfactory page, go to the DLC & Add-Ons section. Download the Satisfactory Dedicated Server from there.
2) Launch Satisfactory Dedicated Server Client
After downloading the Satisfactory Dedicated Server client, launch it to start the initial server setup process.
In your Steam Library:
- Right-click the Satisfactory Dedicated Server client
- Select ‘Manage’
- Click ‘Browse Local Files’
- Run FactoryServer.exe
This action will launch a Windows CMD file that starts your server. Ensure to allow permissions via Windows Firewall when prompted. The initialization process takes about 30-45 seconds.
3) Networking and Port Forwarding
To enable others to join your server, you must open specific ports on your router and/or Windows Firewall. Satisfactory servers default to using port 7777 for both TCP and UDP protocols. If you’re not familiar with port forwarding, don’t fret; it’s simpler than it appears. Follow the steps below to properly configure your networking:
Opening Ports via Windows Defender Firewall
- Type ‘firewall’ in the Windows search bar and open Windows Defender Firewall
- Select ‘Advanced Settings’ from the menu on the left
- Click Inbound Rules on the left
- Now click New Rule on the right
This action opens the New Inbound Rule Wizard, which allows you to create new rules for both TCP and UDP protocols. In the wizard:
- Select Port and click next.
- Select TCP
- Choose Specific local ports and enter 7777, then click next.
- Select Allow the connection and click next.
- Keep all three options checked and click next.
- Name the rule for easy identification on the next screen, then click finish.
After creating rules in Windows Defender Firewall, you’ll probably need to open the ports on your internet router as well. The process is similar, but accessing your router settings can differ based on the brand and model.
Opening Ports via Your Router
First, identify your Internal IP and External IP addresses.
- To find your Internal IP:
- Type ‘cmd’ in the Windows search bar and press enter.
- In the Command window, type ipconfig and press enter.
- Look for the line that says IPv4 Address – that’s your internal IP address.
- To locate your External IP:
- The simplest way to find your external IP address is to search ‘what is my ip’ on Google or visit sites like WhatIsMyIPAddress.com.
Once you have both IP addresses, it’s time to open the port on your router. If you’re unfamiliar with the Port Forwarding settings in your router, you can refer to the Port Forward guide from the No IP Support Center. This resource provides step-by-step instructions for most router models.
After accessing your router’s Port Forwarding settings:
- Open port 7777 for both TCP and UDP protocols.
- When prompted for an IP address, enter your Internal IP.
- Save the settings and exit.
With the ports opened in both Windows Defender Firewall and your router, you are now set for players to join your server!
4) Initial Server Setup and Configuration
Configuring your Satisfactory server is done through the in-game Server Manager. To start, launch Satisfactory and select Server Manager from the main menu.
In the upcoming prompts:
- Click Add Server at the bottom of the screen
- For the address, input your External IP address and confirm.
- Name your server and create a password.
Once your server is in the Server Manager list, you can adjust various settings using the tabs at the top of the screen. When ready to start, navigate to the Create Game tab, select your starting world, and then click Start Game.
That’s all there is to it! You can now enjoy your dedicated Satisfactory server, and your friends can join by visiting the Join Game section from the main menu and entering your External IP address. Note that you need to keep the Satisfactory Dedicated Server client running for the server to remain online, however, you can close the actual game client anytime.
