Completing the Pinnacle of Flame quest in Path of Exile 2 involves gathering Crisis Fragments and unlocking the Burning Monolith, leading to the challenging Arbiter of Ash boss. Yet, the primary hurdle in this quest lies not in facing the boss, but in locating the Citadels needed to assemble the three required Crisis Fragments. Below, we present effective strategies for swiftly finding Citadels in Path of Exile 2, enabling you to either conquer the boss or capitalize on loot opportunities.
Strategies for Finding Citadels in Path of Exile 2
Citadels come in three varieties: Iron, Copper, and Stone, each leading to unique boss encounters that yield specific Crisis Fragments necessary for accessing the Burning Monolith.
Although Citadel spawns are randomized throughout the map, employing strategic exploration can increase your chances of locating them.
To maximize your search, initially venture as far from your starting point at Ziggurat Refuge as possible. This distance opens up opportunities to discover Citadels and unfamiliar regions.
Instead of meticulously clearing every node, adopt a focused approach by traveling along a designated path, which streamlines your Citadel search.
When navigating the world, prioritize spacious landmasses over rivers or shorelines, which yield fewer nodes. The central areas of these larger landmasses will reveal more nodes, increasing your likelihood of encountering Citadels.
Observation is crucial. Each node has distinctive visuals indicative of their type, making it easier for players to identify Citadels without needing to hover over them. Larger areas will provide better visibility of Citadels.
In terms of appearance, Stone Citadels resemble large stone pyramids, Iron Citadels appear as small enclosed villages, and Copper Citadels mimic underground excavation sites with adjacent houses. These structures boast a significantly larger radius compared to standard map nodes, reinforcing the advantage of exploring expansive landmasses to unveil more of the fog of war.
Unlocking the Burning Monolith in Path of Exile 2
To return to the Burning Monolith, select the red skull icon on the endgame map interface to teleport quickly. Bring one of each Crisis Fragment to the monolith’s sealed door to proceed. If you’re missing any fragments, they can be acquired from the Currency Exchange market.
Place one of each Crisis Fragment into the door to unlock it, granting entry to the Arbiter of Ash boss fight. Overcoming this adversary will grant you valuable Arbiter of Ash Atlas skill points, strengthening your character for future challenges.
Be prepared, as additional Crisis Fragments will be required for subsequent attempts at the boss. While buying these fragments from the Currency Exchange is an option, it can be prohibitively expensive, reflecting the difficulty in locating Citadels and the potential rewards of defeating the boss.
Most players aim to complete the Pinnacle of Flames quest to obtain Map Boss skill points. Further attempts post-quest are often pursuit of personal goals or enjoyment.
