The introduction of the Wushu Pokémon, Kubfu, to Pokémon Go marked a significant highlight during the Might and Mastery season. However, players had to wait for the Final Strike event to gain access to its evolution, Urshifu, which can be obtained in both its forms.
Kubfu, a Fighting-type Pokémon, made its debut in Pokémon Sword and Shield’s DLC, The Isle of Armor, where players faced the choice of evolving it into either Urshifu Single Strike Style or Urshifu Rapid Strike Style. With the Final Strike: Go Battle Week event, trainers can now complete their Pokédex with this unique evolution.
Obtaining Kubfu in Pokémon Go
Currently, obtaining Kubfu in Pokémon Go is quite a challenge for players since it does not appear in the wild, cannot be hatched from eggs, and is absent from raids. As it stands, the only method to catch Kubfu is by completing the Special Research quest titled “Fuzzy Fighter” – part five, alongside the first part of the Might and Mastery Seasonal Research. Both of these tasks are part of the Final Strike: Go Battle Week event, running from May 21 to May 27, 2025.

Players will need to complete several tasks to earn a unique encounter with a Dynamax Kubfu. Notably, Kubfu and its evolution Urshifu are the first Pokémon whose Dynamax forms were introduced simultaneously with their regular forms.
Evolving Kubfu into Urshifu
Kubfu features a branched evolution system, a departure from the linear evolution seen in many other Pokémon. It can evolve into one of two forms based on player choice: Urshifu Single Strike Style, a dual Fighting/Dark-type Pokémon, or Urshifu Rapid Strike Style, a dual Fighting/Water-type Pokémon. Both forms require the same amount of Candy but require different tasks to complete their evolution.
- Single Strike Style: Evolve Kubfu into Urshifu Single Strike Style by collecting 200 Kubfu Candy and defeating 30 Dark-type Pokémon in Raids or Max Battles with Kubfu as your Buddy.
- Rapid Strike Style: To evolve into Urshifu Rapid Strike Style, gather 200 Kubfu Candy and defeat 30 Water-type Pokémon in Raids or Max Battles with Kubfu as your Buddy.
It is essential to note that while Kubfu must be chosen as your Buddy during this process, trainers do not require using Kubfu to defeat the 30 Dark or Water-type Pokémon.

Gathering Kubfu Candy
Acquiring the essential Candy for evolving Kubfu can be challenging due to its limited availability. Fortunately, the ongoing Final Strike event offers free Timed Research that rewards players with Kubfu Candy and Rare Candy. Moreover, completing the Fuzzy Fighter Special Research can yield up to 40 Kubfu Candy, while the Might and Mastery Seasonal Special Research can provide a whopping 175 Kubfu Candy.
Unlocking Gigantamax Urshifu
Both forms of Urshifu boast Gigantamax potentials, transforming them into enormous and striking white bears. However, these forms have yet to be introduced into Pokémon Go. Once released, players will easily distinguish between them: Gigantamax Urshifu Single Strike Style features red patterns and sharper details, while Gigantamax Urshifu Rapid Strike Style exhibits blue patterns with more rounded features.

Availability of Shiny Forms for Kubfu and Urshifu
Currently, players cannot encounter Shiny variants of Kubfu, Urshifu Single Strike, or Urshifu Rapid Strike in Pokémon Go. Typically, when a new Pokémon is released, it doesn’t debut alongside its Shiny form, as Niantic often reserves shiny versions for future events.
It appears that these Legendary Pokémon will not feature Shiny versions, as they are shiny-locked, ensuring they remain in their original forms throughout gameplay.
