Guide to Obtaining Shiny Meloetta via Pokemon HOME

Guide to Obtaining Shiny Meloetta via Pokemon HOME

In this tutorial, we’ll explore the steps to acquire an official shiny Meloetta in Pokémon HOME for the very first time!

How to Acquire Shiny Meloetta via Pokémon HOME

Prerequisites for Getting Started

To obtain your shiny Meloetta, ensure you have the following games and applications:

  • Pokémon Scarlet or Violet,
  • The Teal Mask DLC,
  • The Indigo Disk DLC,
  • Pokémon HOME on Nintendo Switch,
  • And Pokémon HOME on a mobile device.

Don’t forget to link your Nintendo Account to the mobile version of Pokémon HOME under the “Options” and “Account” sections, as this is crucial for receiving shiny Meloetta.

Completing Your Pokémon HOME Pokedexes (Excluding Scarlet and Violet)

Next, you must have all Pokémon from the regional Pokedexes in Pokémon Scarlet or Violet, including the two DLCs, The Teal Mask and The Indigo Disk, deposited into Pokémon HOME. This accumulates to:

  • Every single one of the 400 Pokémon from the Paldea (base game) Pokedex,
  • All 200 Pokémon from the Kitakami (Teal Mask) Pokedex,
  • Plus the first 240 Pokémon from the Blueberry (Indigo Disk) Pokedex,
  • All must be deposited at some point into Pokémon HOME (not necessarily simultaneously).

In other words, completing all three Pokedexes in-game is not sufficient. You are required to deposit each Pokémon individually from Scarlet or Violet into Pokémon HOME for them to contribute to your Meloetta progress. If you’ve finished your Paldea, Kitakami, and Blueberry Pokedexes previously but didn’t deposit each Pokémon upon capturing or evolving them, you will need to gather them again.

Additionally, any Pokémon you used to finalize the Scarlet or Violet Pokedex that originated from another game will not count. For instance, if you transferred an Alolan Golem from Pokémon Sun or Moon into Scarlet or Violet, it will unlock its Pokedex entry in The Indigo Disk, but it won’t be recognized as “from Paldea” or contribute to the Blueberry Pokedex in Pokémon HOME. Each regional variant must also be collected separately but within Scarlet or Violet. For example, capture Kantonian Sandshrew in Kitakami and Alolan Sandshrew in Blueberry Academy—one form is not enough.

Although the three Scarlet and Violet Pokedexes consist of 840 numbered Pokémon, there are overlapping Pokémon that can be found in multiple areas and still count for each Pokedex. Ultimately, you’ll need to secure 680 distinct Pokémon and forms, moving them from Scarlet and Violet to Pokémon HOME to unlock shiny Meloetta.

It’s important to note that despite their own entries, Walking Wake, Iron Leaves, and Pecharunt are not required for completing the Blueberry Pokedex. Moreover, there’s no need to capture the (non-shiny) Meloetta in Blueberry Academy for this purpose. However, registering Gouging Fire, Raging Bolt, Iron Crown, Iron Boulder, and Terapagos is essential.

Ensuring Everything is Transferred

The easiest way to stay organized is to store one of each Pokémon from all three Scarlet and Violet Pokedexes (gathered without transfers) in your in-game boxes. Then, move them all to Pokémon HOME at once. While it is not mandatory to have all stored in Pokémon HOME simultaneously, this will aid you in keeping track of what you’ve already acquired and what’s still needed.

Claiming Your Shiny Meloetta from Pokémon HOME

Once you have successfully transferred every Pokémon into Pokémon HOME, your Paldea, Kitakami, and Blueberry Pokedexes will be fully completed in both Pokémon HOME and Scarlet or Violet. You can verify your progress using the mobile version of Pokémon HOME (this feature is unavailable on the Nintendo Switch app) by tapping on your player name at the top of the “Your Room” page and scrolling down to check “Pokedex Progress.” Your Scarlet and Violet progress should indicate:

  • Paldea Pokedex: 400/400
  • Kitakami Pokedex: 200/200
  • Blueberry Pokedex: 240/240.

After completing these Pokedexes, you can claim shiny Meloetta via the mobile app version of Pokémon HOME under the “Mystery Gifts” menu. Take note that “Mystery Gifts” is not an available option on the Nintendo Switch version. One thing to mention: if each Pokémon was transferred into HOME individually before, you can receive Meloetta immediately!

For those who haven’t been depositing Pokémon every time they evolved and need to recapture them, there is a silver lining: there is currently no deadline for this shiny Meloetta distribution. As long as Pokémon HOME continues to operate and connects with Scarlet and Violet, you can make gradual progress towards acquiring your own shiny Meloetta. Though it may feel tedious for players with a completed National Dex, remember, the bright side is that Meloetta is no longer shiny locked.
