Guide to Obtaining the Stun Lance and Baton in Helldivers 2

Arrowhead Game Studios has introduced melee combat to Helldivers 2, expanding the gameplay experience with the addition of two new weapons: the Stun Lance and the Stun Baton. Both weapons occupy the secondary slot, replacing traditional pistols or submachine guns, and offer tactical advantages against specific enemy types and scenarios. This article will guide you on how to unlock these melee weapons and enhance your combat arsenal in Helldivers 2.

How to Unlock the Stun Lance in Helldivers 2

Once unlocked, the Stun Lance can be equipped as your secondary weapon. It features a thrusting mechanism designed to push back enemies while simultaneously stunning and inflicting damage. The Stun Lance is lightweight and easily wielded with one hand, managing to penetrate light armor with minimal recoil of just 8. This weapon proves particularly effective against the Illuminate enemies and can be paired with the SH-51 Directional Shield, which is also obtainable through the Urban Legends Warbond.

How to Unlock the Stun Baton in Helldivers 2

The Stun Baton is a melee option available for purchase exclusively in the rotating Superstore for 200 Super Credits, approximately equivalent to $2. Unlike the Stun Lance, the Baton is subject to availability in the Superstore’s rotation, which may be disappointing for players aiming to acquire it at any time.

This means players can only obtain the Stun Baton when it is active within the store, adding an element of urgency to your shopping. With its swinging motion, the Stun Baton is adept at pushing back foes while stunning them. Even though it doesn’t deliver a significant amount of damage outright, its rapid swings allow for persistent damage that can be particularly effective against elite enemies, helping to create space when overwhelmed. When paired with the SH-51 Directional Shield, it becomes a formidable melee option offering both offensive capability and defensive assets.

Stun Lance vs. Stun Baton: Which Should You Choose?

Both melee weapons provide unique advantages and can complement different playstyles effectively. The Stun Lance is useful for longer ranges, allowing players to maintain a safe distance, while the Stun Baton requires close engagement with opponents. Notably, the Lance consumes less stamina due to its thrust, whereas the Baton, with its quicker swing speed, expends a bit more stamina.

While both weapons apply stun effects, the speed of the Baton gives it an edge in quick engagements, although it necessitates getting up close, heightening risk. Conversely, the Stun Lance offers players the advantage of distance, enabling greater control of combat scenarios.

For players equipped with heavy armor, the Stun Baton can prove invaluable. However, if you prefer maintaining a strategic distance and managing encounters more conservatively, the Stun Lance would be your ideal choice. Overall, neither weapon is inferior; both are excellent additions to your arsenal in Helldivers 2.

Melee weapons are not the only new features introduced with the Omens of Tyranny update; players can also look forward to engaging Warships and utilizing Fast Recon Vehicles.
