After almost fifteen years since its last major installment, Stalker 2: Heart of Chornobyl has made a triumphant return on PC and Xbox consoles, selling over a million copies within just two days of its launch. While the game does offer some ultrawide support on PC, players may notice that this feature is absent during cutscenes and lacks proper field-of-view (FOV) scaling during gameplay. Fortunately, modder Lyall has stepped in with a tool designed to resolve these ultrawide issues.
Resolving Ultrawide Display Issues in Stalker 2
Stalker 2 includes ultrawide display support; however, cutscenes are presented with black bars on the sides, and the game employs vert-minus scaling for aspect ratios of 21:9 or higher. This results in a cropped visual. Lyall’s patch effectively addresses these concerns by correcting the scaling and eliminating pillarboxing.
To install this helpful tool, follow these straightforward steps:
- Visit the GitHub repository and download the latest version of STALKER2Tweak.
- Select the appropriate zip file for either Steam or Xbox from the “Assets” section.
- After downloading, extract the zip file into the Stalker 2 installation directory.
steamapps\common\S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 Heart of Chornobyl
Once installed, launch Stalker 2, and it should now display correctly. Below are comparison images provided by Lyall that showcase the improvements made using the STALKER2Tweak tool:
The STALKER2Tweak tool also introduces several additional features and improvements:
- Activation of the developer console.
- Disabling of mouse smoothing and correcting X/Y sensitivity discrepancies.
- Modification of viewmodel FOV.
- Removal of pillarboxing/letterboxing in cutscenes.
- Correction of vert-minus FOV for ultrawide displays.
You can customize these settings by editing the STALKER2Tweak.ini file, located in the following directory:
\Stalker2\Binaries\Win64
To disable any specific feature within STALKER2Tweak, simply change its ‘Enabled’ value to false. However, maintaining all features set to true is recommended for optimal enhancements.
All credit goes to Lyall for developing and testing this valuable tool.
If you’re seeking to elevate your Stalker 2 experience further, you can also disable shader compilation, mouse smoothing, and vignette effects, along with adjusting the FOV beyond the default in-game limits.
