Romancing SaGa 2: Revenge of the Seven has officially launched on PC and consoles. This remake of the beloved RPG from Square Enix is developed entirely on Unreal Engine. It performs admirably across various systems due to its minimal hardware requirements; however, the graphics settings menu is quite limited, leaving something to be desired. A notable restriction is that players are unable to turn off post-processing effects directly through the in-game options. If you wish to disable motion blur in Romancing SaGa 2: Revenge of the Seven, follow these steps.
How to Disable Motion Blur in Romancing SaGa 2: Revenge of the Seven
To turn off motion blur in Romancing SaGa 2: Revenge of the Seven, you’ll need to modify the Engine.ini file by adding some specific commands to globally disable this effect.
- Right-click on Romancing SaGa 2: Revenge of the Seven in your Steam library
- Choose Manage and then select Browse local files
- Proceed to the following path:
\Romancing SaGa 2 RotS\Game\GlobalConfig\Saved\Config\WindowsNoEditor
- Open the Engine.ini file using a text editor such as Notepad or Notepad++
- Add the following lines to the end of the file:
[SystemSettings]r.MotionBlurQuality=0r.MotionBlurMax=0
- Save the changes (Ctrl + S), then close the file.
That’s it! The next time you start Romancing SaGa 2: Revenge of the Seven, the motion blur effect will be completely turned off.
While it’s tough to capture this change in screenshots, players will notice a significant enhancement in visual clarity, particularly if they are sensitive to motion blur and its potential to induce discomfort.
Turning Off Depth of Field in Romancing SaGa 2 Revenge of the Seven
Similarly, you can deactivate the depth of field effect by adding the following command to the Engine.ini file under [SystemSettings]:
r.DepthOfFieldQuality=0
If you ever decide to re-enable these visual effects, simply remove the corresponding lines from the Engine.ini file.
Enhancing Image Quality Further
The game employs a robust TAA (Temporal Anti-Aliasing) technique, and it is highly recommended to utilize VSR or DSR (downsampling) to run the game at a higher resolution than your screen’s native output. This method ups the overall image sharpness and mitigates TAA-induced blurriness.
For those unfamiliar with downsampling, simply activate VSR or DSR in your GPU’s driver settings, then select an in-game resolution that exceeds your monitor’s maximum capability. For instance, you can set the game to 1440p on a display that only supports 1080p. Fortunately, Romancing SaGa 2: Revenge of the Seven works seamlessly with both VSR and DSR. As long as you are using “Exclusive Fullscreen”mode, you can choose a resolution higher than what your monitor is rated for.
Keep in mind that this enhancement may impact performance; however, given that Romancing SaGa 2: Revenge of the Seven is not overly demanding, the benefits will likely outweigh any drawbacks.
