Season 1 of “Gyeongseong Creature” garnered acclaim for its vivid portrayal of Gyeongseong in the 1940s. In 2024, 79 years later, Season 2 of “Gyeongseong Creature” aims to showcase the evolution of the city by reimagining the architecture and ambiance of the buildings that remain in the contemporary landscape.
Director Chung Dong-yoon discusses “Bugang Corporation,” which evokes memories of “Geumokdang,” stating, “The exterior is reminiscent, but the interior has undergone renovations to become an office. I hope it captures the passage of time,” adding elements of comparison for viewers to discover throughout the series.
Regarding Jeon Seung Pharmaceutical’s underground laboratory, he remarked, “The initial prototype appeared simplistic, so we aimed to create an impression of a cutting-edge facility by incorporating time-effective features like iron doors, modern lighting, nitrogen gas controls, and tempered glass.”
The meticulously crafted production design not only reflects modern times but also preserves the historical aspects, enhancing the audience’s immersion in the drama.
Another highlight of “Gyeongseong Creature” is its upgraded action sequences, expected to provide viewers with exhilarating, powerful, and visually stunning combat scenes.
Additionally, the confrontations between “Jang Ho-jae” (played by Park Seo-joon), “Yoon Chae-ok” (Han So-hee), and “Seung-jo” (Bae Hyun-sung), who utilizes creatures with tentacles, add a thrilling dimension to the drama.
Furthermore, Kuroko, an elite agent who operated discreetly under Maeda’s orders in the previous season, makes a return with an enhanced presence.
Director Chung Dong-yoon stated about Kuroko, “Kuroko embodies a shadowy figure clad in black, reminiscent of traditional Japanese performance art. We put significant effort into crafting a distinctive action style for this character.”
