The Early Access launch of Hades 2 has achieved unprecedented success for Supergiant Games.
Following three years of active development, the first public version of Hades 2 has been released. Enthusiastic fans of the roguelike genre can now delve into what can be considered a complete game, as the Early Access label does not fully do it justice in this case.
From the very start, the game has offered dozens of hours of content and has been polished to the same level as some full AAA games, making it a huge success for the relatively small indie team at Supergiant. This success has been evident in the quick and overwhelming reception of the team’s first-ever sequel.
The Early Access version of Hades 2 has only been on the market for one day, but it has already broken the studio’s record for concurrent players. It has also climbed to the top 10 on Steam’s list of most played games, solidifying its status as a successful indie game with a peak of over 100,000 players simultaneously playing.
Hades 2, currently the best-selling game on Steam, has quickly made a significant impact. Within 24 hours of its release, the sequel reached a peak of 103,567 concurrent players, surpassing popular live service games such as PUBG and Rust, and even last year’s widely acclaimed GOTY, Baldur’s Gate 3.
Hades 2 is among the top 10 most popular games on Steam already, within its first week of Early Access.
As a result of the sequel’s success, the original game has also seen a significant increase in popularity. The first Hades is close to surpassing its own all-time concurrent player record by just a few hundred players.
Since its full release in September 2020, Hades has consistently been a popular game on Steam, with a peak of 37,586 concurrent players during its Early Access window. In the last 24 hours, the game came close to breaking its previous record with 36,043 concurrent players.
Both the original Hades and Hades 2 are currently among Steam’s best-selling titles, with the sequel even leading the list.
Supergiant’s other titles cannot measure up to the immense popularity of the Hades series, especially on Steam. The list below shows the highest recorded number of concurrent players in descending order for all of Supergiant’s titles:
- Hades 2: 103,567
- Hades: 37,586
- Transistor: 6,657
- Bastion: 4,063
- Pyre: 3,995
The data undeniably speaks for itself – Hades and its sequel, Hades 2, have been the standout achievements for the studio, with the latter still in its early stages. With Early Access expected to last until 2024, players can look forward to even more updates and enhancements in the coming years.
As updates continue to roll out, we can anticipate an increase in players. Furthermore, with the official release of version 1.0, we can be sure that Hades 2 will continue to reach new levels of success. As more people hear about the game, we can expect both Hades titles to continue their ascent up the Steam charts.
