This encompasses Narcissus, whose role as a character is currently portrayed as a enigmatic, shrouded figure who conceals their face with a hood. Initially, numerous individuals found amusement in witnessing an individual consumed by self-love attempting to obscure their identity.
This temporary placeholder image is used for some characters in the game, indicating that it is not intended to be the permanent artwork for those characters.
Despite this, there is a growing group of Hades 2 enthusiasts who view it as a fresh interpretation of the story of Narcissus and are advocating for the placeholder to be made a permanent fixture.
It has been noted by numerous players on social media that what sets this artwork apart is its ability to add a fresh perspective to the well-known story of Narcissus and his excessive self-love. The figure in the artwork conceals their beauty under a hood, further emphasizing their narcissistic tendencies as they believe their beauty should only be admired by themselves.
This is supported by a screenshot shared by a fan on Twitter, in which Narcissus tells the player that they are not truly worthy of seeing their beauty and can only stare at them because the player allows it.
One fan also suggests that the hood could serve as Narcissus’ eternal punishment in the Underworld. According to a user on X, it represents his perpetual shroud, forever obscuring his reflection and denying him the ability to see his own face.
It is a fitting explanation, as it aligns with the traits of Narcissus and the intended functioning of the Underworld.
Since the original game was praised for its portrayal of Greek gods and characters, introducing a fresh interpretation of Narcissus would only add to the excitement and celebration.
Currently, it appears that Supergiant is in the process of finalizing a stellar design for the character. However, the temporary art they have provided seems to be satisfying the Hades 2 community adequately.
