Haikyu’s Japan vs. Argentina Match Comes to Life at Paris Olympics 2024 with Fly High Theme Song

On Wednesday, July 31, 2024, at the Paris Olympics 2024, the highly-anticipated match between Japan and Argentina in the Haikyu season 2 opening song “Fly High”was finally played. Japan emerged victorious with a score of 3-1, thanks to the outstanding performance of their star Opposite Yuji Nishida who scored 21 points in the four rounds.

Haruichi Furudate wrote and illustrated Haikyu, a popular manga series about volleyball that was published in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump. The series consists of 45 tankōbon volumes and has sold over 60 million copies worldwide. It has also been adapted into an anime by Production I.G, with four seasons, a movie, and several OVAs released.

On July 31, 2024, the highly anticipated Haikyu match between Japan and Argentina finally took place at the Paris Olympics 2024. As loyal fans will recall, the volleyball manga concluded with Hinata Shouyo and Kageyama Tobio facing off against Toru Oikawa in a thrilling match between the two countries at the Olympics.

Despite never being showcased in the manga, fans were left to interpret the result of the match according to their own taste. However, the Japan vs. Argentina match at the Paris Olympics 2024 provided fans with the opportunity to finally witness it in reality.

The fourth round of the Japan vs. Argentina Volleyball match at the Paris Olympics 2024 concluded with Japan’s victory, with a final score of 3-1.

To the surprise of fans, the Paris Olympics officials also contributed to the perfect setting of the match by playing the anime’s season 2 opening “Fly High.”As fans may recall, the Tokyo Olympics 2020 had utilized the anime’s complete soundtrack to enhance the atmosphere of the matches. While this was expected due to the event being held in Tokyo, it was unexpected for the Paris Olympics to do the same, thus pleasantly surprising fans.

The most surprising aspect was that Team Argentina’s jersey in the game closely resembled the one worn by Team A in the manga’s special chapter. The chapter featured Tetsuro Kuro organizing a Special All-Star Match and inviting top players from all over the globe.

Oikawa Toru teamed up with Hinata Shouyo, Atsumu Miya, Suna Rintarou, Kiyoomi Sakusa, and other members of Team A to compete against Team B, which included Kageyama Tobio, Kotaro Bokuto, Hoshiumi Korai, Wakatoshi Ushijima, Yaku Morisuke, and other players.
