The global phenomenon, Haikyuu!! The Dumpster Battle, continues to captivate audiences, but certain fans have expressed disappointment over the exclusion of crucial scenes from the manga.
“Haikyuu!! The Dumpster Battle has been hailed as one of the top anime movies of 2024. With a release in Japan in February of that year, it quickly became a box office sensation before its global debut on May 31. Read on for our review of The Dumpster Battle!”
Despite receiving overall positive feedback from both audiences and critics, the anime movie has not been able to please everyone. Many fans of Haikyuu!! have expressed their disappointment with certain scenes being omitted from the manga.
The highly-anticipated Haikyuu!! movie continues the story immediately after the end of Season 4. It showcases the long-awaited showdown between Karasuno and Nekoma, known as the Dumpster Battle. Both fans and characters have been eagerly awaiting this match for years.
In its adaptation, the movie centers on a single match and covers the Haikyuu!! manga from Chapter 294 to Chapter 325. In order to fit into an 85-minute runtime, the film naturally had to omit certain scenes from the original source material.
Despite fans noticing that the Haikyuu!! movie did not fully adapt the manga’s match, omitting scenes featuring Kageyama, the film chose to primarily focus on Kenma and Hinata, disregarding several moments of Karasuno’s setter in their favor.
Kageyama, one of the most significant characters in the series, is the deuteragonist of Haikyuu!! Although he may not always be in the spotlight as the setter, the author consistently emphasizes his significance in the story.
Kageyama’s impact on the match in the manga is undeniable. His powerful serves and accurate tosses make him one of Karasuno’s most valuable assets. During a pivotal moment, the manga depicts Kuroo agreeing with Coach Nekomata’s statement that Kageyama is the strongest player on Karasuno after their first practice match.
The sports anime movie, Haikyuu!! The Dumpster Battle, disappointingly omits this scene and many of Kageyama’s powerful serves. This has greatly upset dedicated fans of the franchise. In response, one X user, expresses their frustration by questioning whether Kageyama’s character was even included in the movie.
A different fan also shares their irritation in a similar manner, stating, “Kageyama’s incredible talent was not given the recognition it deserved! While I understand the focus is on Kenma’s moment, Kageyama’s skill added to the excitement of the scene.”
Another person adds, “Even though the movie mainly focused on Kenma’s perspective, Tobio, as the rival team’s setter, should have been given more attention after Shoyo because he is the key player controlling their team.”
Despite the missing scenes in the film, there is a growing desire among fans for it to be adapted into Haikyuu!! Season 5. However, the possibility of this happening is uncertain as plans for Haikyuu!! movie 2 seem to have already been confirmed.
