Haikyuu!!’s Uncertain Future Disappoints Fans

Despite the success of the new movie, Haikyuu!! has had a great year in 2024. However, fans are still disappointed about the uncertain future of the franchise.

Haikyuu!! is a rare sports anime that has achieved significant milestones. Its impact is evident in the increased interest in volleyball in Japan and recognition in the Paris Olympics 2024. The work of Haruichi Furudate has firmly established itself as one of the most influential anime and manga franchises in existence.

In addition, the franchise debuted its first official film, Haikyuu!! The Dumpster Battle, in 2024. The movie has achieved tremendous success at the box office worldwide and is widely regarded as one of the top anime films of the year.

Despite achieving numerous successes, fans of Haikyuu!! remain concerned about its future. Following The Dumpster Battle, the franchise has announced plans for a new movie that will adapt Karasuno’s match against Kamomedai in the Nationals.

Although the prospect of a Haikyuu!! movie may seem thrilling, it has left manga readers dissatisfied. This is due to the fact that the manga still has a significant amount of content left and it cannot all be covered in one movie. As a result, the final arc of the manga is being disregarded entirely.

The omission of the final arc is regrettable as it serves as the climax of the characters’ progression throughout the narrative. Removing it diminishes the significance of their personal development and the central theme of the series.

Additionally, there is a consensus among fans that the Kamomedai match would have been better suited for adaptation in Haikyuu!! Season 5 rather than as a movie. They argue that in order to condense the story into a film, important scenes had to be omitted, leading to the loss of significant elements.

Similarly, in Haikyuu!! The Dumpster Battle, two of the movie’s most beloved characters are left out in order to shorten its duration. This trend may also continue in the sequel, which is why many fans are advocating for an anime series instead.

“It’s disappointing to see that Haikyuu!! fans, who are known for their loyalty and willingness to wait for proper animation, are only being offered movies instead. One user on X expressed their disappointment, wondering about the reason behind this decision.”

Another individual added, “I can’t wrap my head around how this decision was reached. It becomes even more incomprehensible as time passes and Haikyuu!!’s popularity and impact only grows (proving there is a clear demand and market for it).”

“According to a third person, it is impossible to fit all the remaining content into just one movie. They also question why this was chosen as the final decision.”

A fourth person remarked that there should have been a season dedicated to the Kamomedai match and the Brazil arc, followed by a final movie.

Despite the lack of any official announcement, fans are eagerly anticipating the future of the Haikyuu!! franchise after the release of the second movie. With the hope that the creators will take into consideration the desires of the fanbase, it is expected that there will be more projects to come in the future.

The review of Dumpster Battle and insights from the movie’s actors are available, along with an exploration of how the anime showcases the rise of sports anime.
