Halle Berry Reveals How Never Let Go’s Most Traumatizing Scene Almost Didn’t Occur

If you’re a fan of horror films, you’re likely aware that death and brutal scenes are a staple of the genre. However, Halle Berry has shared that the unexpected trauma in *Never Let Go* almost didn’t come to fruition.

Every horror movie that aims to engage its audience must effectively create fear, whether or not it relies heavily on gore. The new film *Never Let Go* strikes a balance of both, with Berry at the forefront as she fights to protect her sons from impending danger.

While it may appear to be a family of three tackling the malevolent force lurking in the woods, the reality is there’s a fourth member in their ranks. Their loyal canine companion also finds itself in some precarious situations, though we won’t give away any spoilers.

“I don’t think any of us really enjoyed that, but we knew that it was a pivotal moment in the movie, and we had to do it. I actually almost cried when the moment came,” Berry stated.

The horror narrative revolves around a supernatural force that only manifests outside the family’s cabin. To heighten the tension, Berry’s character, Momma, is the sole person capable of viewing this entity, leaving her children to rely solely on her depiction of the terrifying events.

The children make a pact to “never let go” of the rope tethering them whenever they leave home. However, when their dog faces peril, the rope becomes a source of trouble.

For Berry, this particular scene undoubtedly struck a chord with many viewers. “I think we all have more compassion for dogs and animals than we do for humans, right? That’s sort of a knee-jerk reaction. A lot of people feel that way. It was certainly the most traumatizing moment of the movie for me, for sure,” she expressed.

Rest assured, this doesn’t mean that Berry, alongside co-stars Anthony Jenkins and Percy Daggs IV, won’t encounter their own share of intense moments.

“There are some hard choices to make,” Berry highlighted. “Eat some things that you don’t want to eat because you have to save the life of your children, for example. There are a lot of harsh realities.”

*Never Let Go* premieres in theaters on September 20 in the US and September 27 in the UK.
