Han So-hee’s Mother Arrested After Painful Confession About Severing Ties Resurfaces

TV Chosun reported on Sep 2nd that Han So-hee’s mother, known as Shin, was arrested by the prosecution for allegedly organizing unlawful gambling establishments.

According to reports, Shin controlled 12 gaming centers in Ulsan, Wonju, and other areas by utilizing proxy business owners from 2021 until the end of the previous month.

Patrons of these gaming centers were able to access a gambling website through which Shin acted as a distributor, facilitating the transfer of game funds for participation in activities such as baccarat.

Prior to this incident, Shin had already been penalized for comparable offenses and was also recognized for having a history of fraud.

As Han So-hee faces public criticism over her mother’s misconduct, focus has shifted towards her past remarks about cutting off all contact with her mother four years ago.

Four years ago, Han So-hee was involved in a scandal regarding her mother’s debts, for which she publicly apologized. In her statement, she revealed that her parents divorced when she was five years old and she was raised by her grandmother. She then moved to Ulsan to attend high school, where her mother resided, but she continued to live with her grandmother. After completing her education, she relocated to Seoul to pursue her dreams.

As I did not have much contact with my mother, I was not aware of her debts until I turned 20. However, out of a sense of filial duty, I took it upon myself to pay off as much of her debts as possible before my debut.”

In 2022, Han So-hee’s mother was once again embroiled in a scandal involving debt. According to her agency, 9ato Entertainment, her mother had used a bank account under Han So-hee’s name to borrow money. This account had been opened without Han So-hee’s knowledge while she was still a minor.

The agency clarified that Han So-hee is not responsible for any of her mother’s debts. This measure is being taken to prevent her mother from using her daughter’s fame to borrow money or demand funds.

They acknowledged, “While we understand the unbreakable bond between mother and daughter, we cannot ignore the harm that has been caused. Our heartfelt apologies go out to those affected. As a preventative measure, we are determined to take a strong stance in order to prevent any similar incidents from occurring again.”
