On October 31st, revelations surfaced about actress Han So-hee, whose birth year was previously listed as 1994 but is now confirmed to be 1993. This twist unfolded alongside her childhood backstory: she had to pause her education in fourth grade due to her mother facing legal troubles. Consequently, when she resumed her studies, she entered a grade with peers born in 1994, which led her to represent her acting age based on that year.
While it’s truly unfortunate that she had to mask her age to cover for a lost year of education—something no child should endure—many fans and critics are raising concerns over this latest fallout, especially given the series of scandals that have surrounded her this year.
Earlier in March, Han So-hee found herself in the spotlight due to dating rumors involving actor Ryu Jun-yeol after a sighting together in Hawaii. Initially met with excitement, the mood shifted drastically when Ryu’s former partner, Hye-ri, shared a vague social media post, and Han So-hee’s reaction led to speculation about a potential love triangle. Frustrated by the public’s view, she issued detailed clarifications on her blog and social platforms. Shortly afterward, her romance with Ryu Jun-yeol came to an abrupt end.
The discourse surrounding her claims of attending a French university also sparked controversy. During her January appearance on the web show “Nattering with Nah,” she mentioned having been accepted into a French academic institution but said she couldn’t enroll due to financial constraints affecting her visa application. Questions arose concerning her French language skills and her hesitancy to disclose the name of the school. Despite her agency asserting that her statements were accurate, skepticism persisted.
By September, Han once again faced scrutiny when news broke about her mother’s arrest for running an illegal gambling operation. This incident wasn’t her mother’s first run-in with the law; in 2020, she had also garnered attention for disappearing with money from a private lending group.
In defense of her reputation, Han So-hee’s representation firmly stated, “We want to stress that this is entirely the action of her mother and has no connection to the actress.”
October brought a new wave of social media-related controversy tied to allegations involving a “malicious commenter acquaintance.” Speculation suggested that Han So-hee may have operated an account responsible for negative remarks directed at Hye-ri, pointing to links such as Jun Jong-seo following this account and the similarity between the malicious account’s profile picture and one that Han So-hee had previously shared. In response, her agency categorically dismissed these claims as “entirely unfounded.”
Shortly thereafter, she had to face scrutiny over her “actual age.” Given the multitude of controversies from March through October, it’s understandable that the public’s patience has worn thin. If there were to be an award for the year’s most controversial figure, Han So-hee would certainly be a top contender.
