Han Ye-seul Fined for Malicious Comments

As reported by News1 on May 28th, Judge Lee Kyung-sun from the Criminal Division 16 of the Seoul Central District Court issued a verdict of a 300,000 won fine for A’s conviction of defamation.

In 2021, A faced accusations of defamation for their comments in an online community article about Han Ye-seul. They stated, “This is why these annoying fools shouldn’t exist… Please have decency. What are they doing at this age?”

Based on the report, A asserted during the trial that the statement in question was not directed towards Han Ye-seul and did not constitute defamation that could negatively impact her reputation in society.

Despite A’s argument, Judge Lee Kyung-soon did not accept it. The judge emphasized that the article contained pictures and the age of Han Ye-seul, and the content specifically revolved around her. As a result, the judge concluded that the comment in question was directed at the victim.

Furthermore, the judge brought attention to A’s comment containing inappropriate language. The judge referenced the National Institute of Korean Language’s Standard Korean Dictionary, stating that the word ‘양아치 (yangachi)’ is considered offensive when used to describe a beggar or someone who engages in immoral acts, while ‘날라리 (nallali)’ refers to someone who behaves recklessly and without dignity. The judge emphasized that these words can be interpreted as subjective judgments or expressions of strong emotions, potentially influencing the victim’s social standing.

On May 7th, Han Ye-seul revealed that she had tied the knot with her boyfriend Ryu Sung-jae, who happens to be 10 years her junior. Currently, Han Ye-seul is happily spending her honeymoon.
