According to an article by Dailymail on May 5th, Italian model Eugenio Casnighi was let go by the Met Gala organizers shortly before the highly anticipated event. Prior to this, Casnighi’s role was to greet and accompany guests at the Met Gala, which was set to take place on May 6th (US time).
The model confirmed that he had been fired, stating, “I had been working as a guest liaison at the Met Gala in 2022 and 2023, and was supposed to continue in this role at this year’s event. However, I was let go today because I went viral at last year’s Met Gala. They accused me of trying to use my appearance alongside artists to gain attention for myself and become famous.”
Eugenio Casnighi made headlines at the Met Gala 2023 for his eye-catching look as he accompanied Kylie Jenner. He also received considerable recognition after appearing in an interview video with BLACKPINK’s Jennie.
Despite being in the presence of popular celebrities like Jennie and Kylie Jenner, Eugenio often caught viewers’ attention with his striking appearance. This was evident when, during a video interview with YouTuber Emma Chamberlain, the camera unexpectedly shifted towards Eugenio instead of focusing solely on Jennie.
Eugenio Casnighi clarified that he did not actively seek attention: “Photographers typically take photos of artists, not me. However, when they photographed Kylie Jenner, I happened to be standing next to her. As a result, I was also included in the picture. Despite this, I am unfairly blamed and accused of seeking attention, which led to my termination.”
The model’s experience at the Met Gala also showed that he was mistaken for an artist: “Since I didn’t have a badge, some artists initially assumed I was a fellow guest rather than a staff member. However, upon learning about my role, their demeanor towards me quickly changed. They began to distance themselves and stopped engaging with me, instead opting to interact with other attendees at the event.”
