MBC’s popular entertainment show “Hangout With Yoo”released a teaser on April 20th, teasing SEVENTEEN’s upcoming guest appearance on next week’s episode. However, the show received a lot of criticism from viewers, particularly fans of BTS, after the teaser was released.
The production team introduced SEVENTEEN with the caption, “Welcome to HYBE’s new building, built by SEVENTEEN” . However, upon reading the caption, ARMYs (BTS’s fandom) expressed frustration, stating that it was not entirely accurate. They believed that BTS played a significant role in HYBE’s success and growth, and felt disrespected by the program’s portrayal of the group.

Despite BTS members being inactive due to their military service, many ARMYs have provided evidence to show that they continue to account for the majority of HYBE’s revenue. In fact, in 2018 their share was 98%, and it remained high in subsequent years with figures of 97% in 2019, 92% in 2020, and 70% in 2021 when HYBE moved to a new building. Even in the future, it is estimated that BTS’s contribution to HYBE’s revenue will still be significant, with a projected figure of 60% in 2023.

Throughout the escalating controversy and criticism, “Hangout With Yoo” swiftly modified the contentious caption. The latest teaser video now features the caption, “Welcome to HYBE’s new headquarters. The level of the new building that astounds the members” . The program has also updated their videos on Naver and Nate TV with this revised teaser.
Additionally, it was revealed by fans that HYBE does not own the building located in Yongsan, as it is rented on a monthly basis. The true owner of the building is someone other than HYBE.
