OSEN’s investigation on August 2 revealed that singer and actress Hani and doctor Yang Jae-woong had planned to get married in September, but there have been talks of postponement due to the recent news of a patient’s death.
In response to this, a spokesperson from Hani’s agency stated to OSEN, “At this time, we are unable to provide any information regarding the (delay of the wedding).”The agency chose not to elaborate on the matter, neither confirming nor denying the speculations of a potential postponement of the wedding, which is scheduled to take place in just one month. They maintained that the news cannot be verified at this time.
Earlier, a media outlet had announced on May 31 that Hani and psychiatrist Yang Jae-woong had been dating for four years and were planning to tie the knot in September.
The day after, on June 1, Hani confirmed the marriage. Later, Yang Jae-woong made an appearance on a variety show and happily revealed that Hani was the one who proposed to him initially.
Despite regularly appearing on television, a well-known psychiatrist came under scrutiny when a major network news reported on July 26 that one of his patients had passed away while under his care. The patient, identified as B and in her 30s, had been admitted to the hospital on May 27 for treatment of diet pill addiction. According to her family, she tragically died after her complaints of abdominal pain were allegedly ignored by hospital staff.
It was later disclosed that Yang Jae-woong was the person identified as A. After two months, he released a statement expressing deep remorse, “In regards to the incident that took place during the admission process at Wjin Hospital, my team and I are profoundly saddened and extend our sincere apologies to the grieving family who lost a loved one,”he added, “As the director of the hospital, I am taking this matter extremely seriously. Our hospital is actively collaborating with external authorities, sharing medical records and CCTV footage of the incident.”
The announcement of Hani and Yang Jae-woong’s marriage on June 1, only four days after the patient’s passing on May 27, was met with harsh criticism. Some believed that Dr. Yang’s decision to announce his marriage shortly after the incident was insensitive to both the patient and their grieving family.
Despite her achievements, Hani was not immune to criticism. On her personal social media and in online communities, she faced a barrage of negative comments. Some even went as far as questioning her awareness of the incident and suggesting she reconsider her marriage, while others made disparaging remarks.
Additionally, B’s mother was appalled and emphasized that Yang Jae-woong never personally apologized or took responsibility after her daughter’s passing, choosing instead to communicate through his lawyer even after offering a public apology.
“Despite the incident being widely covered by the media, he continues to manipulate the media for his own benefit. Yesterday morning, as I protested in front of the hospital, he walked by me without acknowledging my presence. This further strengthens my belief that his apology is insincere and I refuse to accept it.”
