ADOR Demands Change from Belift Lab Over NewJeans Controversy
On November 27, ADOR, the agency representing the popular K-pop group NewJeans, issued a statement via its official channels. The agency called on Belift Lab, the label for ILLIT, to approach the situation with a “sincere attitude”to mitigate ongoing and “unnecessary controversies”surrounding NewJeans.
This statement follows a previous demand from Belift Lab, which requested an apology from NewJeans’ Hanni after she accused an unnamed staff member of instructing artists to disregard her. The escalating tensions have led to significant public discourse online.
Official Statement from ADOR
“Hello, this is ADOR.
On October 7, 2024, Belift Lab released a statement via their official X account titled ‘Notice’ addressing the ‘manager disregard remark.’ In an effort to prevent further disputes that could impact our artists, ADOR has opted for a measured response thus far. However, despite these efforts, the controversy remains unresolved, prompting us to share our stance publicly.
Belift Lab’s statements contradict Hanni’s account. Hanni distinctly recalls that on May 27, 2024, a member of Belift Lab suggested she be ignored. Holding the victim to an unreasonable standard of memory regarding a brief incident is unfair. ADOR fully supports Hanni’s testimony and expresses regret for the distress she has experienced.
We urge Belift Lab to acknowledge the gravity of Hanni’s experience and to engage respectfully. It is critical that unnecessary controversies involving our artists are not allowed to continue.”
Despite ADOR’s public backing, Hanni’s response has been far from enthusiastic. She updated her status on the fan communication app “Phoning”to an indifferent “😑” emoji, signaling her dissatisfaction and frustration with the handling of the situation.
Reactions from Netizens
The online community has rallied in support of Hanni, expressing their frustration at ADOR’s perceived slow response in defending its artists. Comments from fans reflect a shared sentiment that the situation should have been addressed sooner and more effectively.
- The agency should have acted sooner; they waited until the final deadline to respond.
- I’m speechless; ADOR seems clueless in their approach.
- What they have offered feels like empty rhetoric.
- As a fan, I’m baffled—imagine how Hanni feels.
- Is this truly the best ADOR can do?
- Hanni’s emoji perfectly encapsulates the situation.
Ongoing Developments
Meanwhile, NewJeans had previously issued a letter demanding that ADOR rectify contractual violations, warning of potential contract termination should the agency fail to respond adequately within 14 days. Notably, ADOR’s recent statement came just one day before this deadline expired.
