Hanni’s Mother from NewJeans Discusses National Assembly Appearance: Full Support for Her Daughter

On October 10, Hanni from NewJeans shared a heartfelt message from her mother via the girl group’s fan engagement platform, Phoning.

The idol noted, “This is a note my mom wanted me to share with the Bunnies (NewJeans’ fans). Since there wasn’t another way to communicate it, I’m posting it here.”

In her message, Hanni’s mother conveyed her unwavering support for her daughter’s choices. Below is the full content of the message:

“As Hanni has decided to participate in the National Assembly to address bullying and workplace harassment, our family stands behind her completely in every decision she makes.

Growing up beside Hanni, I value every moment we spent together. I was always concerned about her ability to express herself in difficult circumstances outside our home, as I feared her opinions might go unnoticed or unappreciated. Her passion for music and dance became crucial for her to articulate her feelings; it was her refuge.

When the incident at HYBE was brought to my attention, I was profoundly upset. It seemed like a narrative that could follow her throughout her career. We realized it was essential to break this cycle, and I encouraged her to speak out. Hanni’s commitment to attending the National Assembly is a serious undertaking, one she approaches with great care. She has summoned remarkable courage to advocate for herself, and we are deeply proud of her. Through this endeavor, Hanni’s past, current, and future will have a platform that allows her to inspire positive change in the years ahead. Her strength is bolstered by the genuine love and support of those around her, like her family—everything less than that is merely a dilution of her spirit!”

Previously, Hanni was chosen as a witness by the National Assembly’s Environment and Labor Committee, while the CEO of NewJeans’ agency, Kim Juyoung, will also testify. This hearing arises from the workplace harassment controversy linked to Hanni’s comments made during an urgent live stream in September regarding a comment from another artist’s manager, which suggested she should “ignore” Hanni.

Moreover, Hanni confirmed her attendance at the parliamentary hearing, scheduled for October 15, in a post on Phoning on October 9.
