The good news is that it was confirmed by Netflix on September 9, 2024, that Happy Gilmore 2 has begun shooting.

During Dan Patrick’s show, Sandler confirmed the movie is in the works with writer Tim Herlihy. Shooter McGavin actor, Christopher McDonald, revealed he received the script and described it as “awesome.”
Netflix has already announced that Happy Gilmore 2 will release on the streaming service, but the exact date remains unclear. If making an educated guess, we might expect the film to release in 2026, considering the script might need more revisions and the production timeline.
What is Happy Gilmore 2 about?
Currently, there are no official plot details available for Happy Gilmore 2, as the project is still in its early stages of development.
The first movie wrapped up positively, with Happy winning the Tour Championship, defeating Shooter, securing the girl, and saving his grandmother’s house.
It’s likely Happy and Shooter will face off once again in some capacity. Fans of the original film have suggested ideas that include a new generation of the Gilmore family.
Reddit users have speculated that it would be interesting to see Gilmore’s daughter (played by Sandler’s real-life daughter) become an LPGA Tour pro, with Shooter’s daughter as her main rival.
It would be even funnier if Gilmore’s daughter struggled with golf and switched to hockey, becoming a sensation due to her father’s lucky swing. The twist being that Shooter McGavin raised his daughter to play hockey, only to find his family rivaled by a Gilmore again.
It remains uncertain whether the storyline will focus solely on Sandler’s character or if he will pass the baton to a younger cast.
Who’s in the Happy Gilmore 2 cast?
One confirmed cast member is Adam Sandler as the titular character.
Sandler has not yet confirmed if any cast members from the original film will return. However, Christopher McDonald’s involvement, as he received the script, suggests he will reprise his role as Shooter McGavin.
Other actors, like Julie Bowen, who played Virginia, Happy’s love interest, remain unconfirmed. Happy Gilmore 2 could potentially bring back her character as Happy’s wife (or possibly ex-wife for added drama).
Notably, stars from the original movie such as Carl Weathers, Richard Kiel, and Bob Barker have since passed away. Weathers portrayed Derick “Chubbs” Peterson, while Kiel played Mr. Larson, Happy’s former employer.

There are rumors circulating that Paige Spiranac, a popular golf influencer, may secure a role in the movie. Fans have eagerly requested her involvement, and she has teased her readiness to participate.
