On May 27, it was reported by Sohu that actor Liu Jin, known for his supporting role in the film “A Portrait Of Jianghu: Bad Guys,” disclosed that the production company has yet to pay him 16,000 Chinese yuan (2,200 USD) in wages. Furthermore, Liu Jin confirmed that lead actress Mao Xiaotong, who also starred in the film, has also not received her payment from the same production team.
Despite being promised a salary of 12.5 million Chinese yuan (approx 1.7 million USD) for her leading role, Mao Xiaotong was not paid upon completing the film. In 2021, the actress filed a lawsuit against the film’s production company, Yin Bai Nian, represented by Wang, in order to receive the money she was owed.
The court ruled that Yin Bai Nian must pay Mao Xiaotong the overdue salary along with a late fee of 2.5 million yuan (approximately 345,000 USD), resulting in a total compensation of 15 million Chinese yuan (over 2 million USD). However, Wang claimed that the company was unable to provide assets to enforce the judgment. Even after seven years, Mao Xiaotong has still not received the full compensation.
Mao Xiaotong, who was born in 1988, gained recognition for her role in the popular palace drama “Empresses in the Palace.”She then went on to play supporting roles in various successful projects including “The Magic Blade,””The Demi-Gods and Semi-Devils,””The Romance of the Condor Heroes,””Love Yunge from the Desert,””Love O2O,””The Princess Weiyoung,””Nothing But Thirty,”and “The Bond.”
Her natural acting has earned her a reputation as a talented actress. The public has highly praised her ability to deliver lines.
At present, Mao Xiaotong plays the role of the Northern Qi Princess in “Joy of Life 2.”Despite her limited appearance on screen, she convincingly portrays a pure and compassionate princess with a regal presence. The romance between the Northern Qi Princess and the First Prince of Qing Kingdom is a major draw for viewers.
Despite working in the Chinese entertainment industry, Mao Xiaotong has managed to maintain a remarkably clean private life, which is a rarity. She had a difficult upbringing, as her father, who preferred sons over daughters, initially wanted to discard her. After her parents’ divorce, she was raised by her mother. However, her father later attempted to manipulate her by threatening to expose her as an ungrateful daughter if she did not give him money.
Moreover, Mao Xiaotong had previously discovered her boyfriend, actor Chen Xiang, being unfaithful. Although she chose to remain quiet in order to preserve his image, Chen Xiang persistently slandered her on multiple television programs. As a last resort, Mao Xiaotong had to reveal proof of his betrayal to vindicate herself.
