The executives at Hasbro have announced that they are currently in the process of seeking a new studio to create the upcoming installment in the Baldur’s Gate franchise.
Within a month of Larian Studios announcing their departure from Dungeons & Dragons to focus on other projects following the release of Baldur’s Gate 3, Hasbro and Wizards of the Coast have reassured fans that they are actively searching for a new studio to develop Baldur’s Gate 4.
In an interview with PC Gamer, Eugene Evans, the Senior Vice President of Digital Strategy and Licensing for Hasbro, discussed the future of Baldur’s Gate. He stressed the importance of maintaining the same level of care for the franchise as seen with Larian.
Evans stated that they are currently in discussions with numerous partners and have also been approached by many others who are eager to take on the challenge of determining the future of the Baldur’s Gate franchise.
Despite the 25-year gap between the release of Baldur’s Gate 2 and 3, which Evans discusses in the interview, he reassures fans that Hasbro is aiming for a faster turnaround this time around. However, this does not mean that the development team will be sacrificing quality for speed.
As Evans clarified, it is important for us to carefully select our partner, approach, and product that will represent the future of Baldur’s Gate. We highly value all decisions regarding our portfolio and do not make hasty choices in terms of partnerships or product selection.
Despite not disclosing any specific studios, Evans acknowledged that whoever takes on the challenge in the future will have a tough task ahead. They will have to live up to the high standards set by Larian’s successful release of Baldur’s Gate 3.
