Haunted Chocolatier: Latest Updates and Insights on Stardew Valley’s Successor

ConcernedApe, the talented developer behind the acclaimed Stardew Valley, revealed in 2021 that he was creating a new game titled Haunted Chocolatier. The announcement of Haunted Chocolatier was met with excitement and quickly sparked significant interest among fans.

Three years have passed since that exciting announcement. While we still lack extensive details about this next town-building adventure from ConcernedApe, there is already a wealth of information available for those willing to explore.

Haunted Chocolatier Gameplay

Though Haunted Chocolatier shares similarities with its predecessor, it promises to be a distinct experience. The relaxed farming days are a thing of the past, as Haunted Chocolatier will resemble an action RPG more than a traditional life simulation game. Fans of the high-stakes areas in Stardew Valley, such as the Mines or Skull Cavern, are sure to enjoy the new combat elements.

This new title will place greater emphasis on combat. However, beloved features from Stardew Valley will still remain, including building relationships with neighbors, foraging for ingredients for your shop, and customizing your chocolaterie. Despite these returning elements, the combat will take center stage in the overall gameplay experience.

The gameplay trailer for Haunted Chocolatier showcases a variety of new weapons, including a bow, a long staff, and a shield. The shield mechanic offers players the ability to stun enemies, providing an opportunity to unleash powerful attacks without fearing retaliation. For more information on this combat mechanic, check out a blog post by ConcernedApe that dives deeper into the combat system.

“The shield/stun mechanic rewards more cautious, patient players who wait for a window of opportunity. However, players can also opt for an aggressive approach, defeating enemies quickly if they can manage to pull it off,”mentioned ConcernedApe.

Although the combat mechanics in Haunted Chocolatier will be unique and tailored for this game, familiar Slime enemies will return. New adversaries, such as a formidable bee enemy called the Big Bee Foe, suggest that players can look forward to epic boss battles in the Haunted Chocolatier.

The combat system in Haunted Chocolatier has been partially influenced by Diablo II, as revealed in a December 2022 interview with ScreenRant. Players can expect features such as loot gathering and stat increases to enhance their experience in this delightfully haunting RPG.

Haunted Chocolatier Release Date

As of now, there is no confirmed release date for Haunted Chocolatier. ConcernedApe paused development on this project to focus on completing the Stardew Valley 1.6 update, ensuring it’s free of bugs and compatible across all platforms.

The Stardew Valley 1.6 update has been performing well on PC since March 2024. The console and mobile release dates have also been confirmed, so hopefully, work on Haunted Chocolatier can resume enthusiastically after November 4, once the Stardew Valley 1.6 update becomes available on those platforms.

Will the Haunted Chocolatier Have Multiplayer?

While Stardew Valley is perfect for enjoying with friends and family, Haunted Chocolatier will not include multiplayer features. According to the FAQ section of the Haunted Chocolatier blog, the game is designed solely as a single-player experience, and there are no current plans to introduce multiplayer options.

What Platforms Will the Haunted Chocolatier Release On?

Currently, Haunted Chocolatier is in development exclusively for PC. However, as indicated on the Haunted Chocolatier blog’s FAQ page, ConcernedApe intends to eventually launch the game on additional consoles as well.
