HBO boss reveals which Game of Thrones spin-offs are confirmed

HBO boss Casey Bloys recently clarified the situation regarding Game of Thrones spin-offs: here are which spin-off projects have gotten the green light.

Game of Thrones is not done with the screens! Despite a complicated eighth and final season, the relationship between the series and the public has remained close, and the enthusiasm for projects derived from the universe of Westeros only confirms that there is always anticipation among spectators. That’s good: HBO intends to take advantage of the slot.

After the prequel House of the Dragon which is preparing for its season 2, other series will arrive on the screens of fans of Game of Thrones and the intrigues from the twisted mind of writer George R.R. Martin.

But at this stage, if announcements have been made in the euphoria of the success of previous series, the public remains rather in the dark: which projects will really see the light of day? Which ones should we forget, or take with a grain of salt? Don’t panic: the boss of HBO, the studio behind Game of Thrones, has decided to clarify the situation.

HBO boss reveals which Game of Thrones spin-offs have been given the green light

According to Casey Bloys, in comments reported by The Wrap, HBO is currently focusing on two spin-off series in particular: season 2 of House of the Dragon, and A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight.

“Updates from HBO’s Casey Bloys: House of the Dragon Season 2 will be released in early summer; The Succession spin-off is very unlikely; For the future of The Last of Us after season 2, everything will depend on the creators, but Bloys “will accept as many seasons as they want to offer us” “

The projects were initially numerous. For example, we could count Bloodmoon, supposed to start in 2019 before being canceled after a pilot whose budget was estimated at around $30 million. Other sources had announced a direct sequel centered on Jon Snow, played by Kit Harrington.

The fact that HBO prefers to concentrate on two projects while neglecting (for the moment) the others is not alarming. And the boss wanted to reassure the public by explaining the situation: “I think that with a series like this, when someone reads that a project is in development, he imagines that it is already being filmed, which is not the case“, declared the CEO of HBO to The Wrap.

“Right now, the only two things that have been given the green light are House of the Dragon, obviously, and The Hedge Night. There are many other projects in development but there is nothing to announce immediately.”

The interview was also an opportunity to announce the big news: The Hedge Knight, inspired by a series of short novels by George R.R. Martin under the title Tales of Dunk and Egg, will be entitled to start filming in 2024. The story revolving around Duncan the Great and his squire Aegon Targaryen should therefore not take long to provide more news. Be careful, however: the distribution is not yet complete, and the writing of the scenarios is not completely finished.

There is also a lot of positive feedback regarding season 2 of House of the Dragon. George R.R. Martin not only touted the spin-off’s “poignant”upcoming episodes, but Casey Bloys also revealed to The Wrap that they would be arriving quickly.

The HBO boss thus gave a release window for “early summer” 2024 – slightly earlier than the August estimate previously proposed by star Matt Smith.

Additionally, a recent report claims thatHouse of the Dragon season 3 is already in pre-production, which (if this turns out to be true), implies a shorter interval between seasons.
