The highly anticipated Harry Potter TV series from HBO is set to commence production in 2025. Although the show will not include any actors from the beloved film franchise, it already boasts a significant link to the films that fans of J.K. Rowling’s magical universe will appreciate.
The original Harry Potter films stand as cultural cornerstones of the 21st century, achieving both iconic status and remarkable box office success. Following more than a decade after the release of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2, this adaptation aims to bring Rowling’s seven-book narrative back to life on the small screen with a fresh, yet faithful approach.
HBO’s plan involves a comprehensive ten-year journey to adapt the entire series. As of now, the casting for central characters like Harry, Ron, and Hermione remains undisclosed, but reports indicate that over 32,000 young actors have auditioned for these iconic roles.
Filming Set in the Original Studio
In an exciting move for fans, the Harry Potter series will be filmed at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden, the same studio where the original films were produced. This connection promises to evoke nostalgia and maintain the series’ authentic ambiance.

According to the official franchise website, iconic settings will be revisited, as confirmed by showrunner Francesca Gardiner and director Mark Mylod. They noted, “We don’t want to mess with the likes of the Great Hall, but we plan to expand on other aspects of Hogwarts. We can also introduce fun elements, such as interactions with Peeves in the corridors!”
Mylod further elaborated that their approach treats Hogwarts as a tangible location, incorporating elements of Georgian architecture and aiming for naturalism. “We have the luxury of long-form storytelling,”he remarked, expressing excitement about exploring the beloved world in greater detail.
Gardiner shared her admiration for the original films, stating that while they were extraordinary achievements, the series provides a “bigger sandbox”for creative exploration.
In terms of casting, actors like Mark Rylance are rumored to portray Dumbledore, while Paapa Essiedu, known for Gangs of London, is in talks for the role of Snape. Additionally, Janet McTeer from Ozark is reportedly a frontrunner for the character of Professor McGonagall. However, no official casting announcements have been made as of yet.
As fans await more updates on this ambitious project, the combination of nostalgia, new storytelling angles, and a dedicated creative team promises to make the Harry Potter series a significant addition to the franchise’s legacy.
