The finale of House of the Dragon Season 2 has been met with negative reactions from viewers, earning it the second-lowest rating in Game of Thrones history.
The second season of the Game of Thrones spin-off has concluded, and loyal fans of the franchise have not hesitated to express their dissatisfaction.
Despite showrunner Ryan Condal insisting that the shorter run time of only eight episodes in Season 2 was intentional, viewers of the original eight-season show have still gone so far as to claim that the final episode of House of the Dragon left them with “PTSD”, with some stating it felt more like a “70-minute trailer”.
After the numbers have been tallied, it is evident that the show’s viewership is in consensus about the finale, with the episode now holding the title of the second-lowest-rated episode in the entire franchise.

Despite the Game of Thrones Season 8 finale holding onto the number one spot with a disappointing 4.0 out of 10, the latest episode of House of the Dragon Season 2 has claimed second place with a respectable rating of 6.8.
On X (formerly Twitter), there were multiple theories from viewers as to why the season finale did not meet fans’ expectations.
It was believed by some that the directors and writers deviated from the books in order to create and delve into their own storylines, but this approach was clearly unsuccessful.
“As expressed by one individual on Twitter, our expectations for character relationships are simply coherence, for the plot to move forward, and for the fantasy world to not confine characters to a single location for extended periods of time. Another user on the platform concurred, deeming the 6.8 rating “excessively high”and attributing it to subpar writing
Some viewers believed that while the episode was “great”, it made for a disappointing finale and was essentially a one-hour teaser for Season 3, which fans would have to patiently wait for years to see.
“This season was primarily a build-up, similar to a training arc with a small twist in the middle. While necessary, it may not have been the most entertaining.”
