“He couldn’t remember my name for a year” BTS’s V’s past statement re-examined amid controversy over Bang Si-hyuk’s alleged mistreatment towards NewJeans

On September 10th, 2019, Bang Si-hyuk, chairman of BTS’s label, joined BTS’s V on SBS’s Chuseok pilot program “BTS Variety Chronicles” .

V was disappointed when he found out that Chairman Bang Si-hyuk could not recall his name for an entire year.

V remembered, “It was during our monthly evaluation when I bumped into PD Bang Si-hyuk while heading to the convenience store with RM. I greeted him and he inquired, ‘Who are you standing next to Nam-joon (RM)?’”

At the same time, V reminded Chairman Bang Si-hyuk to remember his name, saying, “My name is Tae-hyung.”This continued for a whole year.

In the morning of May 13th, a media outlet released a report on an email sent by ADOR to HYBE summarizing the suggestions of NewJeans‘ parents to the company.

The email revealed that the parents of NewJeans members stated that Chairman Bang Si-hyuk did not acknowledge the greetings of the members when they came across him at the company.

Parents were dismayed by the fact that every time their children, who are in middle and high school, met Chairman Bang Si-hyuk in the company, he would pretend not to know them and ignore their greetings. They had heard stories about one of the members feeling embarrassed in an elevator when Chairman Bang intentionally ignored them or pretended not to see them. As parents, they were shocked by this behavior and found themselves at a loss for words.
