Heartbreaking Netflix Movie with Flawless Rotten Tomatoes Score Features Most Brutal Death of 2024

The most devastating death in a film this year does not occur in a gory battle or shootout, but rather in a peaceful New York City apartment. If you are able to watch it, Netflix’s His Three Daughters is a poignant and heartbreaking experience.

In the past nine months, Netflix has provided us with numerous occasions to shed tears.

There have not been a significant number of major death scenes on the streaming platform… until the recent addition. In contrast to the deaths in Longlegs or tragic accidents in Mother’s Instinct, the most brutal death scene of 2024 is portrayed through a father’s terminal illness in His Three Daughters, now available on Netflix.

We are now going to discuss the gut-wrenching ending, so be warned, there are spoilers ahead…

The recently released film depicts the journey of three sisters as they stand by their father during his last moments, while also highlighting the unresolved conflicts among them. Although we do not witness their father’s struggle for survival in his room, the climax of the movie portrays his death in a poignant scene on screen.

The girls push him into the living room, where he appears to regain his health and begins to share all the things he had always wanted his daughters to know. However, in reality, he has already passed away and his consciousness has drifted away.

Despite being a heart-wrenching moment, director Azazel Jacobs had not originally intended for it to happen.

“Although it seemed as though I had established this rule, in reality, it was meant to be challenged. I am drawn to films that take unexpected turns. It occurred to me that it would be meaningful to have a moment to express love and apologies.”

“He explained, ‘I desired to know more about my father because it was important to me. I wanted to understand his identity and feel the void of his absence. I believed that without his presence, our film would be limited and simplistic.’

“As it occurs, it leads to a place where you must grapple with it, resulting in a film that is quite different from what one would anticipate.”

If the concept of a prolonged death does not convince you, it is worth noting that His Three Daughters has received a perfect 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes.

Robert Daniels, in his review for Screen International, described His Three Daughters as an emotionally charged elegy that delves into the bonds of sisterhood and the profound impact of losing a parent.

“Ethan Dayton from That Shelf concurred that His Three Daughters demonstrates the power of a compelling narrative that resonates with audiences, as well as the incredible skills of those who bring it to fruition.”

You can catch His Three Daughters on Netflix starting September 20.
