Heartstopper Season 4: Latest News, Plot Speculation, and Updates

What do we want? Heartstopper Season 4! When do we want it? Now! Here’s everything we know about the future of this beloved show and whether we can expect another season.

In October, Heartstopper Season 3 premiered, surpassing even the highest expectations from fans. Netflix made viewers wait for the new content, and now the anticipation begins anew as they wonder about the possibility of Season 4.

It didn’t take long for questions regarding Season 4 to emerge on social media, and honestly, who can blame fans for wanting more?

So, what are the chances of seeing Nick, Charlie, and their friends back for another adventure? Here’s what we know so far about the potential for Heartstopper Season 4.

Heartstopper Season 4 hasn’t been greenlit… yet

As of now, there is no official confirmation of Heartstopper Season 4 from Netflix or creator Alice Oseman. That said, since the story is not finished, we suspect an announcement could be made soon.

The biggest indication for another season is that Heartstopper comprises a total of six books. Currently, we are partway through Book 5, which leaves roughly a book and a half’s worth of storyline to explore—a perfect setup for a new season.

Moreover, Book 6 has not yet been released, and with 2024 approaching its end, a release date is still not on the horizon. Book 5 was made available in November 2023, with early estimates suggesting Book 6 could arrive by the end of 2024.

This lack of a release could mean a longer wait for any subsequent seasons of the series. However, one thing is clear: regardless of when Season 4 is eventually released, it is likely to be during the winter months.

This pattern aligns with the established release schedules where Season 1 premiered in spring, Season 2 in the summer, and Season 3 debuted in fall.

According to Oseman, Season 4 may also be the final chapter. In a discussion with Radio Times, they explained, “It would probably be four seasons to cover the full story. I haven’t done any in-detail planning or anything, but it’s quite easy to divide up the books into seasons, so four I think would do it.”

Joe Locke had also hinted at his return, captioning an Instagram story with, “Bye for now Charlie warlie” after completing filming for Season 3.

With Season 3’s announcement arriving just days after the release of Season 2, it’s a good idea to keep an eye on social media for further developments.

Heartstopper Season 4 cast

After the Season 3 finale, it’s expected that the principal cast will return for Heartstopper Season 4 (and we’re all hoping for an Olivia Colman return).

The main cast members include:

  • Kit Connor as Nick
  • Joe Locke as Charlie
  • William Gao as Tao
  • Yasmin Finney as Elle
  • Corinna Brown as Tara
  • Kizzy Edgell as Darcy
  • Tobie Donovan as Isaac
  • Jenny Walser as Tori
  • Rhea Norwood as Imogen
  • Leila Khan as Sahar

The future of supporting characters, including Mr. Ajayi (Fisayo Akinade), Mr. Farouk (Nima Taleghani), and James (Bradley Riches), remains uncertain. All story arcs are likely to pivot away from Truham Grammar School, which may indicate we’ve seen the last of them.

Of course, the major comeback we’re all waiting for is Olivia Colman, who portrays Nick’s mother. She appeared in the first two seasons but was unable to return for Season 3 due to scheduling conflicts—however, Season 4 could bring her back.

In Season 3, Hayley Atwell stepped in as Nick’s aunt Diane. Ideally, we’d love to see both actresses in the show together… dare we dream!

Heartstopper Season 4 plot

Season 4 is expected to continue with events from Book 5 of Oseman’s series, leading into Book 6. Since the latter hasn’t been released yet, we’re still in the dark regarding the series finale.

While some significant plot points from Book 5 have been highlighted—such as the characters contemplating university life and beginning sexual experiences—there are still several themes to unravel.

Tori’s journey of self-acceptance as she identifies as asexual after navigating her new relationship with boyfriend Michael is one aspect. Also, Nick and Charlie continue to explore their physical relationship, while Nick grapples with his university decision regarding Leeds.

What follows remains unclear. With Book 6 yet to be released, we have no concrete insight into what Oseman has planned. However, we can guess that a central theme will focus on Nick’s departure for university, testing his relationship with Charlie like never before.

Other characters face similar challenges. Elle and Tao will find themselves in the same predicament as Nick and Charlie, while Darcy’s newfound self-discovery could potentially complicate her relationship with Tara as well.

Heartstopper Seasons 1-3 are available now on Netflix.

Additionally, stay tuned for updates on other Netflix series, including Virgin River Season 6 and Stranger Things Season 5, alongside more exciting shows streaming this month.
