Despite the backlash from Helldivers 2 players over a controversial update that implemented nerfs, Arrowhead Game Studios CEO Shams Jorjani expressed gratitude for the community’s passion and assured that both the game and the studio’s communication would be improved.
The recently released Helldivers 2 update on August 6 has received negative feedback from players. The community has heavily expressed their dissatisfaction with the patch’s numerous nerfs, especially towards the beloved Flamethrower weapon.
In a surprisingly gracious manner, Arrowhead CEO Shams Jorjani has addressed the public’s outcry.
Jorjani reassured frustrated players in the Helldivers Discord that he would choose their current situation over a lack of interest any day of the week.
He continued, “Just to clarify, I have no issues with the current situation. Our intention is for individuals to express their preferences without hesitation.”
Jorjani also acknowledged that the individuals expressing their concerns were “bringing up valid points on various issues”and offered valuable perspective on the reasons why updates may not always align with the desires of players and developers.
The speaker stated that their goal is for each patch to make progress towards the right direction. Despite the current patch’s problems receiving more attention than its improvements, the speaker assures that their team will continue to work in good faith and acknowledge that they are human and may make mistakes at times.
Despite their success, Helldivers 2 and Arrowhead have faced their fair share of criticism. Notably, in May, a major PSN controversy caused a stir. In addition, past updates have been heavily criticized for their nerfs, with even game director Johan Pilestedt admitting that some may have been too extreme.
Despite receiving criticism, Arrowhead has also been praised for its openness and engagement with the Helldivers 2 community, both in times of praise and criticism. Jorjani’s response in this situation further demonstrates this approach.
Although Jorjani mentioned that plans are currently being developed, efforts are being made to enhance communication between developers and players. This may include regular streams, as well as an increase in blogs and vlogs in the near future.
The actions that Arrowhead will take in response to this recent wave of criticism are still uncertain. However, Helldivers can take comfort in the fact that democracy is likely to be well taken care of.
