After the latest update, players are demanding that the R-36 Eruptor in Helldivers 2 be reverted back to its pre-patch state due to what they perceive as a significant nerf to the weapon.
On April 30, the developers of Helldivers 2 discovered that shots from the R-36 Eruptor had the potential to cause shrapnel to blow back and instantly kill the shooter. The team determined that the best solution would be to remove the shrapnel effect from the Eruptor and increase its damage to make up for the change.
The May 7 update for Helldivers 2 implemented the expected balance modifications, which included a 40 increase in explosion damage for the gun and the removal of the shrapnel effect. However, players who have tried the Eruptor since the update was released are dissatisfied, claiming that the changes have significantly weakened the typically dominant rifle and made it ineffective.
According to Redditor Paper-Rock, it now requires three shots to eliminate a stalker, using half of the magazine. This change to the patch is seen as a decrease in both damage and enjoyment, as the previous risk-reward dynamic was more engaging. The user is hopeful that Arrowhead will undo this modification and restore the explosive weapon to its previous state.
A recent post on the Helldivers subreddit also echoes this sentiment, with many players expressing their agreement. One user commented that the weapon’s effectiveness has decreased significantly without the shrapnel, citing its decreased damage on direct hits and the loss of its ability to clear large areas.
In addition, players have noticed that the Eruptor nerf in the Helldivers 2 patch has resulted in the Democratic Detonation Warbond lacking any exceptional primary weapons.
The Warbond package not only features the Eruptor Rifle, but also includes a BR-14 Adjudicator Rifle and a crossbow, which have not been as popular among users as primary weapons. As a result, the Eruptor Rifle has been recognized as one of the standout items in the Warbond offerings.
The developers at Arrowhead have not yet dealt with the negative response regarding the recent nerf.
