Helldivers 2 dev advises players not to focus on weapon stats

Arrowhead CEO Johan Pilestedt thinks Helldivers 2 players should stop stressing about weapon stats and just use the ones they “like the most.”

As with any online game, there is much debate in the Helldivers 2 community about the best weapon classes, levels, etc. Players who want to delve deeper into this aspect of the experience therefore have numerous guides to consult.

These classes are usually compiled based on known weapon stats that exist in the game. But, according to Pilestedt, players shouldn’t spend too much time stressing about it.

Indeed, the developer thinks that Helldivers would be more peaceful if they simply used the weapons that speak to them the most.

Helldivers 2 doesn’t show all weapon stats, developer says

On the topic of “meta”gear and weapon stats, Johan Pilestedt noted that these discussions are primarily based on the four weapon stats shown in the game. However, these stats don’t tell the whole story.

The developer of Helldivers 2 gave a response to fans on social media. He explained, “Many of you use the 4 stats we show as a comparison when each weapon has maybe 50 stats in total. The numbers are a guideline but [do not] give all the details.” Pilestedt added that instead of focusing on weapon stats, players should simply “use the one you like the most.”

Although the community appreciated the developer’s frankness, many weren’t too happy with the idea of Helldivers 2 featuring “hidden”weapon stats.

One person responded by saying, “I personally hate hidden stats and not being completely informed about what something does. But it’s always been like this. I don’t understand the point.”

Other people seem to agree with him, saying that players enjoy playing the “stat comparison”game.

However, since Helldivers 2 isn’t competitive like Call of Duty and Fortnite, it’s questionable whether Pilestedt’s advice was a good thing.
