Helldivers 2 – PC Review Bombing

Despite being a highly anticipated game, Helldivers 2 is currently facing a major review bombing, which is comparable to the massive negative reviews that accompanied the Steam release of Overwatch 2.

The revelation that Helldivers 2 would soon mandate players to connect their PSN account with Steam in order to access the game was met with swift and sweeping criticism from players. It appears that this dispute will continue to escalate in the coming days.

Despite its initial success, Helldivers 2 is now facing a significant amount of backlash as it receives an increasing number of negative reviews on Steam. In just two days, the negative ratings have risen by nearly 100k, putting it in the same league as other highly criticized games such as Overwatch 2 and Battlefield 2042. It has the potential to surpass both in terms of sheer quantity of negative reviews.

Despite efforts to work around the restrictions, players remain frustrated with Sony due to their previous data breaches and the exclusion of dozens of countries from creating PSN accounts. Additionally, attempting to fake one’s location in order to bypass these limitations can result in a ban.

Consequently, players of Helldivers 2 are expressing their anger. Despite having a 5-minute slow mode enabled, their official Discord server is moving at a rapid pace, with players finding inventive ways to call out Sony. The same can be observed on Steam as well.

According to a Steam review, the Automatons have seized control of Sony Headquarters and have recently announced a decision to reduce our numbers by requiring us to participate in linking, which involves sending military secrets to their Playstation Network, an intelligence collection network. This is being presented as a measure to ensure our “safety and security,”but it is seen as undemocratic and will be made mandatory by May 6th, 2024 on Super Earth Time.

The Ministry of Truth has demanded an immediate cessation of this undemocratic conduct and has deemed it a danger to Managed Democracy. It is imperative that all Helldivers take action to put a stop to this oppression (in game).

Despite the game’s top reviews on Steam, tensions with community managers have only added fuel to the fire. A message from Community Manager Spitz on Discord states the following:

“While this may not be the first game, or even the fourteenth, to require a third-party account that takes a few minutes to create, if the idea of spending just 120 seconds entering an email and password is a dealbreaker for you, then perhaps it is best to change your Steam review and express your dissatisfaction on a platform where it can make a difference.”

After that, Helldivers 2 rating took a nosedive. However, the community manager later retracted their statement.

“According to him, if a viable alternative is not offered for players residing in areas without PSN coverage, it will not be mandatory for them to meet the requirement. He reassured that the game will not be creating a situation where players are forced to violate Sony’s terms of service or be unable to play.”

Despite the efforts put into earning the goodwill of gamers, Helldivers 2 now faces a difficult road ahead to restore their reputation, as the damage has already been done.
