Helldivers 2 players discover the dark truth of the game’s lore

The terrible truth about the origins of Helldivers 2 is slowly revealed, and players are horrified by the dark reality of Super Earth and the actions of its most dedicated defenders of democracy.

Helldivers 2 was Sony’s surprise success at the start of the year. During its first week, this sequel shattered PC records previously held by the very popular God of War. Also, the game shows no signs of slowing down.

Hundreds of thousands of players are flooding the servers to the point that developers are struggling to keep up. When players manage to log in, they are so committed to the cause that they refuse to turn off their systems.

However, not everything is positive for the community. Helldivers first made a splash on PlayStation almost a decade ago. Now that its sequel is reaching new heights, many are only now discovering the story of the first game. And what they learn terrifies them.

Helldivers 2 Players Discover Story Lore and Play the Game

“Looking closer at the lore of Helldivers and Super Earth, it’s all super American,”a real US military veteran said on Twitter, prompting thousands of others to weigh in.

For those who don’t know, Helldivers aren’t exactly presented as the “good guys.”At least, depending on who you ask.

The sole purpose of exterminating insects is to be able to extract their resources. The automatons are almost enslaved to manipulate the democratic protocols of Super Earth. There is also another alien race that we haven’t seen yet in this sequel, the Illuminate. They were almost exterminated so that humans could take their advanced technology.

Any opposition to these actions, even simple questions about the goals of Super Earth, legally requires the government to intervene. Any mention of peace talks with the enemy could then result in imprisonment or worse. Indeed, a detail from the first game pointed out that it is even “illegal to express oneself freely”in this regard.

As Helldivers 2 is extremely gameplay-focused, with very little narrative, much of this detailed lore remains hidden, tucked away in the first game only to potentially be revealed over the years in this new sequel. But even with the lack of explicit storytelling, the research was on and players began to make some shocking realizations.

“It’s all lies,” the US Army veteran insisted to his fellow Helldivers. “They never attacked us. WE ARE THE BAD BAD!»

With humor, almost all the answers therefore went in the direction of the fictional government of the game and its modus operandi. “This post does not celebrate democracy. Fight in the interests of humanity? It seems absolutely justified. We can use these resources better, because we are humans,” are some of the answers.

Clearly having fun with all this, the players therefore take to heart to now in the real world the good image of the Super Earth and its inhabitants as in Helldivers 2.
