The latest Helldivers 2 patch has made significant changes to popular weapons in the game, including those featured in the recent premium warbond, Freedom’s Flame. These adjustments have caused a backlash among players, who have shared their disappointment and frustration with the changes.
In August 6, Helldivers 2 patch 1.001.002 was launched, implementing significant modifications and tweaks to the Escalation of Freedom DLC. These updates introduced a new and challenging difficulty level known as Super Helldive, as well as new objectives and bots. Additionally, various adjustments were made to balance the current selection of weapons.
All of the aforementioned weapons, including the SG-225IE Breaker Incendiary, GP-31 Grenade Pistol, CB-9 Exploding Crossbow, Orbital Walking Barrage, and Orbital 120mm HE Barrage, have been nerfed in terms of their ammo capacity, movement speed, and cooldown period.
The recent patch not only addressed other issues, but it also reduced the potency of the popular FLAM-40 Flamethrower. The flame effects have been modified to provide a more realistic experience. As stated in the official patch notes, the flamethrower will no longer penetrate through bodies or objects as it would be expected to bounce off when used on armors or static objects.
The FLAM-40 flamethrower is one of the fan-favorite weapons in Helldivers 2.
This indicates that the Flamethrower, previously a devastating weapon for Helldivers on the battlefield, is now ineffective in creating a cooking frenzy.
Previous buffs had enabled the flamethrower to quickly eliminate even the largest adversaries, such as the Terminids, in a matter of seconds. However, as reported by players, it appears that the weapon no longer has the same effectiveness.
Moreover, the recently introduced premium warbond, Freedom’s Flame, mainly consists of Flamethrower weapons and flame-resistant armors, all of which have also been nerfed in conjunction with the patch.

Since the release of the patch, players have been criticizing the updated premium warbond as “lame”and “lukewarm.”
One player shared, “Upon reading the patch notes, I exclaimed ‘you foolish individuals’ with enough volume to startle my cat.”Another added, “I witnessed the fire safety officer accidentally immolating himself with his own flamethrower, taking out the other divers.”
The Freedom’s Flame Premium Warbond can now be purchased for 1000 Super Credits. This package includes 22 rewards, with the potential to earn back 300 Super Credits.
