Helldivers 2 players speak out against obsession with kill stats

Helldivers 2 is a game that involves a lot of eliminations, but efficiency is just as important. Therefore, players in the community want changes in statistics so that there is more emphasis on objectives.

Helldivers 2 is a combat-focused game and the emphasis is on weapons, Stratagems and your ability to liberate planets from Terminid and Automaton enemies. However, players feel that the focus is primarily on kills when it comes to stats and this needs to change.

Conversely, players would like the emphasis to be placed on the objectives managed during missions. This would encourage players to focus on objectives rather than being too aggressive in an effort to get a high number of kills, at the expense of mission success. These goals could include, number of Corrosive Titans defeated, Chargers slain, resources collected, etc.

Helldivers 2 players want a stat change that no longer emphasizes kills

The discussion around the topic was initiated by user lmrbadgerl on Reddit. He said: “Kills don’t count as long as you can complete objectives.”They continued: “Goals matter. Samples matter. The other objects to collect count. Avoiding unnecessary aggro counts. But if you’re judging people by how many kills they accumulate, then you’re judging on a useless metric, which makes your opinion of said metric useless.”

He also said, “It’s us against the bots/bugs/Joel and all that.”Not against each other.” Other players joined the conversation, as many agreed with him. One user mentioned, “I really wish the end-of-mission stats tracked objectives completed and powerful enemies defeated.”

Another user added: “Amen. Yesterday I saved the team again on levels 8 and 9. In one match I took down 10 chargers and 4 corrosive titans. But this is not mentioned in the debriefing.” One player also said: “Overall kill count is a useless stat to track…but I’d say replacing it with ELITE kills would be nice.”

Finally, one player suggested: “Okay, I drive the rover to thin out hordes quite often and my kill count is quite frequently the highest because of it, but I don’t see that as a real accomplishment or a reason to think that my teammates were not doing their part.”

So it seems that players who take care of objectives and focus on the aspects that make the mission successful want more recognition. Here’s hoping Arrowhead listens to Helldivers 2 players.
