Helldivers 2’s R-36 Eruptor: Buffed Amid Ricochet Confusion

Arrowhead has discovered an issue with the R-36 Eruptor in Helldivers 2’s ricochet system, which will prompt some intriguing changes.

The April 29 patch for Helldivers 2 sparked controversy and confusion regarding the ricochet functionality. A misleading Reddit post falsely stated that Automaton shields were now able to reflect incoming missiles.

Despite the community debunking the assertion, Arrowhead remained diligent and conducted an investigation into the claim. Although they did not find any evidence of rockets and explosives ricocheting backward, the team did uncover a problem with the R-36 Eruptor.

In a post on Reddit, SpitzerFX, the Associate Community Manager for Arrowhead, brought attention to an issue with the shrapnel effect of the explosive weapon. The developer explained that the gun’s shots can cause an explosion and send back shrapnel with enough force to fatally wound the shooter.

The developers of Helldivers 2 have decided to remove the shrapnel effect of the R-36 Eruptor as a solution. However, players need not be concerned as the gun’s hit damage will be increased to make up for it.

SpitzerFX stated that their goal is to eliminate the shrapnel effect from the Eruptor, while also boosting its hit damage. This adjustment will make the weapon less hazardous for the operator, while still remaining a formidable force against enemies. The Eruptor’s destructive capabilities will be maintained, and since it is still classified as an explosive, it will retain its ability to demolish objects, seal openings, and destroy fabricators.

The developer assured players that the alteration to Helldivers 2’s R-36 Eruptor will not affect its area of effect. However, the timeline for when this change will be implemented has not been specified.

The R-36 Eruptor was introduced in the Democratic Detonations Warbond and was well received by players. Despite its popularity, the shrapnel effect caused confusion due to its questionable damage output. Therefore, the removal of this effect and the overall increase in damage of the Eruptor may be welcomed by many Divers.
