Henry Cavill’s Dig at Justice League Controversy in First Official Cavillrine Image

Henry Cavill has at last revealed a official glimpse at his unexpected cameo as Deadpool and Wolverine, complete with a subtle reference to his involvement in the Justice League controversy.

Deadpool and Wolverine thrilled audiences with a surprise cameo from none other than former Superman, Henry Cavill. Making a brief appearance as a Wolverine variant, affectionately nicknamed “The Cavillrine,”he appears just long enough to toss Deadpool out of his own reality.

Despite its brevity, Cavill has finally revealed the first official glimpse of his Wolverine interpretation on social media. In doing so, he also addressed the highly publicized backlash he faced after his appearance in 2017’s Justice League.

Cavill explained in the caption on his Instagram post that he shaved off his moustache for this one in order to be safe. He clarified that it was just the moustache that he removed.

Cavill, of course, is talking about the well-known mustache he grew for Mission: Impossible – Fallout. While fans praised the appearance, it proved to be a challenge for his upcoming role as Superman in the DC universe.

Despite Justice League undergoing reshoots, Paramount refused to let Cavill shave his mustache for them. As a result, Warner Bros decided to use CG to try and remove the mustache, resulting in a Superman with a mouth that resembled old mashed potatoes.

In reality, The Cavillrine was simply a tribute to the numerous fan theories of Cavill portraying Wolverine in the MCU, similar to John Krasinski’s appearance as Reed Richards in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Additionally, Cavill joined an exclusive group of actors, including Hugh Jackman and Troye Sivan, who have portrayed Wolverine in live-action.

However, the single appearance in the movie also acts as a playful reference to his previous role with Marvel’s main rival. In his brief appearance, he also pokes fun at the negative reception of his portrayal of Superman, with Deadpool reassuring him that Marvel would treat him much more fairly than the “less than satisfactory”individuals at the other studio.

Despite not knowing who will take on the role of Wolverine in the MCU, there are rumors that Hugh Jackman may continue in the role for some time. While it is uncertain if Henry Cavill is being considered, many fans are advocating for Dafne Keen’s X-23 to potentially become the new Wolverine.

Despite his busy schedule, Cavill continues to work on multiple projects. He is currently involved in a Warhammer 40k movie for Prime Video and a reboot of Highlander for Lionsgate. However, for the time being, Superman will not be seen on the big screen until 2025, when actor David Corenswet will take on the iconic role.
