How to Trigger the Rowland Oakes Quest
To start, it is necessary for players to have reached level 10 and finished the main story mission ‘The Helm of Urtkot’. After this, Adelaide Oakes can be found in the Transfiguration Courtyard within the Astronomy Wing of Hogwarts Castle, where she will offer the quest.
Players can find Rowland Oakes’ journal and map at the bandit camp in the picture above.
Where to Find Rowland Oakes’ Map
Adelaide will request that the player locate the camp where her uncle Rowland Oakes was last seen. Head to the designated camp on your map and face an open area swarming with goblins that must be vanquished.
After the camp has been cleared, use the Revelio spell to search for both Rowland’s journal and map. The journal can be found on the ground, with the map resting on a crate to the left of it.
Rowland’s map is a cryptic hint of the direction players need to go to find the missing wizard.
Rowland’s map leads players on a route that begins at the camp, follows a river, and ends at a ruined castle. Along the way, they must use the clues provided on the map to piece together Rowland’s possible whereabouts.
Rowland Oakes’ Map Solution
To locate Rowland’s whereabouts, access the map and search west of the bandit camp, where the map was discovered. The river in this area will lead players to a bandit castle located in the far corner of the North Hogwarts region.
By following the river, you will encounter the three designated landmarks on the map: a rock formation, a crooked tree, and a ruined tower. Ultimately, players will reach the bandit castle, inhabited by goblins.

As you wander through the castle, defeat any enemies you encounter and unlock the numerous treasure chests scattered around. Eventually, you will come across the entrance to Korrow Ruins, which you must enter.
Steps to Complete Rowland Oakes’ Quest
The dungeon is relatively uncomplicated, but it is infested with goblins. To locate Rowland, players can track the quest marker on their mini-map to the lowest level of the dungeon, where he is trapped behind a closed door. He will request that players assist in the search for his lost wand.
Upon reaching the upper level of the dungeon, make your way into a room featuring a two-sided staircase and an elaborately decorated metal door. Spot a sizable, silver boiler and proceed to ignite the fire beneath it using either Incendio or Confringo in order to gain access through the door.
After defeating the goblin boss Pergit and several other goblins, players should enter the room on the right side. Inside, they will discover a desk containing Rowland’s wand. The wand must be collected and returned in order to successfully complete the quest.
The Tale of Rowland Oakes Rewards
After retrieving the wand and returning it, you will receive a Handcrafted Necklace and earn 180 experience points as a reward.
Despite the quest being lengthy, its reward is unsatisfactory as the necklace serves no practical purpose and is merely a decorative item for the player.
