Fans of Hollow Knight eagerly anticipating Silksong were initially excited when the game’s Steam page hinted at a possible beta test. However, it turned out to be too good to be true.
It has been more than two years since Team Cherry last shared any significant updates about Hollow Knight Silksong. During this period, they have only pushed back the release date of the highly-anticipated sequel from its original early 2023 schedule and assured fans that development is still ongoing.
Many enthusiastic fans have been left feeling disappointed by the lack of presence of Silksong in prominent game showcases, particularly those that highlight indie games. They have been eagerly searching for any indications of progress or updates on the highly anticipated title.
The Hollow Knight community was excited when a Steam update seemed to suggest a beta test, but their excitement was short-lived when it was revealed to be a false alarm.
A fan who noticed the addition shared a screenshot in a Reddit post, which revealed that “Hollow Knight: Silksong for Beta Testing”had been added to Steam’s backend.
The update, which is indeed real, sparked excitement among fans.
Regrettably, the thrill was short-lived. It was soon discovered that Silksong was not the only app receiving the “Beta Testing”update, as more than 55,000 other apps were also included in the update on August 27, 2024.
This led a moderator on the Silksong subreddit to come to the conclusion that while the change is indeed legitimate, it appears to have been automatically made by Steam and not by [Team Cherry].
The entire scenario can be effectively described by two remarks made by a Reddit user. According to them, “On June 9, the last update for the Beta branch was in 2019… THIS COULD BE A BIG DEAL.”However, after the situation was clarified, the same individual added, “Okay, never mind, back to coping.”
The Hollow Knight Silksong store page has caused confusion in the past. In May 2024, the game’s Microsoft Store page was updated to show a release date of December 29, 9998. With no new information, this date is beginning to seem like an accurate prediction.
