One film director in Hollywood claims that the creative quality of the industry is deteriorating because of popular streaming personalities such as Kai Cenat and IShowSpeed.
According to Indiewire, Harmony Korine, director of Baby Invasion, spoke about the current state of the film industry at the Venice Film Festival.
According to Korine, the creative state of Hollywood is deteriorating, and it is essential for the industry to embrace alternative forms of entertainment such as gaming and streaming, which have gained popularity among younger audiences.
“The creative landscape in Hollywood is shifting, with many talented and innovative minds being drawn to the world of gaming and streaming. According to him, popular figures such as IShowSpeed and Kai Cenat have the potential to be just as successful in the movie industry.”

Harmony continued to elaborate on her point that Hollywood is deterring younger creative individuals by adhering to traditional filmmaking methods. She once again enthusiastically praised IShowSpeed.
“According to him, people now go to other places as movies are no longer the primary form of art. While they have always been the dominant art form, the landscape of art has become non-linear.”
“As a result, there is a high likelihood that they will lose their talented individuals to other locations, leading to a stagnation of film production with an overemphasis on popular intellectual property or exclusive, limited experiences. However, IShowSpeed is being hailed as the next Andrei Tarkovsky, providing a refreshing and acclaimed perspective in the industry.”
Additionally, he had more to say about the popular streamers. During a video posted on Twitter/X, a question was posed about whether he would consider having IShowSpeed make an appearance in one of his films.

If Korine were to cast the YouTube star in a movie, it would not be the first instance of a popular streaming star appearing in a film.
In 2023, popular Twitch personality Kai Cenat made an appearance in Good Burger 2, the highly anticipated sequel to one of Nickelodeon’s most beloved films. Joining Cenat in the star-studded cast were notable figures such as Al Roker, Nicole Byer, Yung Gravy, Mark Cuban, and Carmen Electra. The movie was exclusively released on Paramount+.
