On May 22, Hong Kong celebrity Cheng Jinling posted on her social media several photos from six years ago when she visited the infamous “Burning Sun”club, along with a harrowing account of her experience.
The release of a documentary by BBC about the “Burning Sun”scandal has revived interest in the events that shook 2019. The documentary unveils the explicit details of the sexual offenses committed by Jung Joon-young, Seungri, Choi Jong-hoon, and other members of the “Burning Sun”group.
Cheng Jinling opened her statement by recounting, “I accompanied my ex-boyfriend to the Burning Sun club and lost consciousness after consuming only one drink.”
During a conversation, she mentioned her visit to the Burning Sun club in 2018, stating that she went because her friend’s ex-boyfriend was a business partner of Seungri in Hong Kong. She recalled how the club was packed and Seungri was the DJ that night. She also found it odd that many attendees were wearing black sunglasses and sucking on pacifiers. Only later did she discover from friends that these were unconscious actions to conceal drug use symptoms like dilated pupils or biting one’s tongue.
Cheng Jinling admitted to feeling scared when she unexpectedly passed out after consuming two glasses of champagne at the bar. She observed that she became excessively intoxicated much faster than usual, despite not drinking as much as she normally would.
Thankfully, Cheng’s friends and ex-boyfriend were quick to notice that something was amiss and promptly removed her from the club to notify the authorities. Reflecting on the situation, she noted that her drink appeared to have been tampered with, but thankfully, she did not experience any additional harm.
Cheng concluded by stating that her intention in sharing her lengthy post was to increase public awareness of the dangers, drawing on her own personal experience.
