Hong Kong Stars Including Jackie Chan Express Grief Over Norman Chui Siu-keung and His Wife’s Passing

A funeral for renowned martial arts actor Norman Chui Siu-keung and his wife was conducted on October 5 with traditional Buddhist rites. The ceremony was attended by Chui’s former partner, actress Shirley Yim, who was notably present during the somber occasion.

Norman Chui Siu-keung tragically passed away from esophageal cancer in Beijing on September 1, at the age of 74. His wife, who was 30 years younger, also succumbed to a heart attack brought on by grief while arranging his funeral.

On October 5, a memorial service was held for the beloved couple at Universal Funeral in their hometown of Hong Kong (China), organized by their five children.

Chui Siu-keung and his wife — His daughter Erica Chui and son Chui Yik-tung, along with Shirley Yim, took charge of the ceremony.

Actress Shirley Yim arrived at the funeral home around 4:30 p.m., visibly saddened and declined to give interviews. During their lives, she and Chui maintained a well-publicized romance, though they never married.

According to HK01, the funeral was simply decorated, featuring flower baskets on either side of the couple’s portrait. Above, a photo of Norman Chui and his wife was displayed, accompanied by wreaths from their five children and other colleagues.

Norman Chui enjoyed a vast social circle and was deeply revered in the entertainment industry, receiving condolences from many, including Jackie Chan, singer Emme Wong, Jackie Lui Chung Yin, and Chin Ka Lok, who all sent flower arrangements to express their sympathies.

During the memorial, actor Danny Lee Sau Yin reminisced, stating, “We met in an artist training class and have known each other for 53 years. He had a great personality; whether he had money or not, he would cover the meals. That’s just who he was…”

Lee, 72, recalled their last meeting in Hong Kong two months before Chui’s passing. “At that time, he seemed fine, but we were aware of his illness and encouraged him to return for treatment. He was stubborn, however, and chose to stay in Beijing.”

Born in 1950, Norman Chui was a celebrated Hong Kong martial arts actor, well-known for his iconic villain roles in films.
