Honkai Star Rail Fans Demand Replacement of Voice Actor Amid Abuse Scandal

Fans of the popular gacha game Honkai Star Rail from the Hoyoverse have voiced their demand for the replacement of Chris Niosi, the voice actor of Moze, following renewed attention on past allegations of abuse.

In 2019, Chris Niosi, the voice actor for Moze, faced multiple allegations of abuse. One of these allegations was made by his former partner, and in a Tumblr post, Niosi acknowledged that he had been emotionally abusive and apologized to those affected.

Niosi’s former partner, Amy, made allegations against him on Tumblr, accusing him of being emotionally abusive. She stated that during their relationship from September 2017 to April 2019, Niosi had been manipulative, non-consensually touched her, and falsely claimed to have no contact with his previous partner.

This was accompanied by struggles with setting boundaries and managing anger, causing her to constantly worry about his outbursts.

After the allegations were revealed, Niosi took responsibility and issued an apology addressing the situation and expressing regret for any harm he may have caused to others.

According to the VA, for nearly half of my life, I have mistreated and abused not only my friends and colleagues, but also my significant others, despite being 30 years old.

“Forgiveness is not what I seek. My only wish is to take the first genuine step towards becoming a better person. I will strive to never disappoint or cause harm to those I care about in the future.”

After facing allegations in 2019, Nintendo decided to remove the voice actor from the Fire Emblem series, in which they had portrayed Byleth. Now, with the recent announcement of Niosi’s role in Honkai Star Rail, many fans are urging Hoyoverse to take similar action.

“The fact that Chris Niosi went to therapy to improve himself does not excuse the harm he caused to his victims. It is unfair for them to have to hear their abuser’s voice in any form. This individual should not pursue a career in the VA industry,”one player expressed on Twitter.

“Another player added that in 2019, Chris Niosi confessed to emotionally and sexually abusing his colleagues, family, and partners. Shortly before the release of a game, Nintendo replaced him with another actor. The thought of casting him in anything now is incredibly embarrassing.”

Despite the apology issued by the voice actor, Niosi did not directly address many of the allegations and has not made any effort to earn forgiveness from his other victims, according to numerous Honkai players.

Hoyoverse has not yet addressed the criticism surrounding the casting announcement.
