“Hope You Understand My Sincerity”: Hyeri Breaks Down Over Allegations of Chart Manipulation in “Victory”

On September 12th, a special screening and event for the film “Victory” took place at Megabox COEX in Gangnam-gu, Seoul. The event featured the presence of Director Park Bum-soo, Hyeri, Park Se-wan, and Anna Lee, CEO of Annapurna Films.

During the gathering, Hyeri emotionally expressed, “‘Victory’ has gone through many ups and downs since its inception. It’s a film I take great pride in, and I genuinely hope you can appreciate the sincerity behind it.”

Hyeri elaborated, “After many viewers shared their thoughts on ‘Victory’, I felt an overwhelming support. I aimed to show my gratitude by reaching a wider audience, promoting the film both online and offline. The affection shown towards ‘Victory’ has been heartwarming, and I wanted to give back in some way.”

She added, “‘Victory’ has evoked a range of emotions in me. It’s a film that brings tears, whether from joy, sadness, or frustration. It truly holds a significant place in my heart.”

“Victory” began gaining momentum on September 10th. After its release on August 14th, the film was ranked 8th as of September 1st, but its rapid rise surprised many in the industry.

Hyeri and Park Se-wan have been diligently promoting the film, engaging with fans online and attending promotional events consistently throughout its fourth week since release.

However, the film’s sudden surge in popularity has led to suspicions of “sajaegi” (chart manipulation). In response to this, the distributor Mindmark issued an official statement clarifying, “Certain corporate and group screenings were arranged ahead of the Chuseok holiday, which increased audience attendance during weekdays.”

They further clarified, “The sold-out weekday screenings, which sparked discussions in online communities, were indeed corporate and group screenings. Typically, these group screenings are not open for general booking; however, the schedule for some was inadvertently made available to the public, leading to misunderstandings.”

Meanwhile, “Victory” narrates the inspiring tale of the “Millennium Girls” , an amateur cheerleading club whose passionate performances uplift everyone around them.
